Are the Spurs Real Contenders?

Remember Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich's San Antonio Spurs? You know the same Spurs that won four NBA Championships from 1999-2007? Those Spurs could very well be back. After getting bounced by the Memphis Grizzlies in a stunning upset in last year's postseason (Spurs were the No. 1 seed), the Spurs are back as that under-the-radar contender -- or so we might think.

On Monday, the Spurs increased their win streak over the Golden State Warriors to 14. The team overall has won three straight games, gone 8-2 their last 10 games, and have clinched the NBA Southwest Division. They currently sit at No. 1 in the Western Conference, dead-locked with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

We say the Spurs are under-the-radar because they haven't received the press of the Miami Heat or Chicago Bulls, but that doesn't mean this team isn't for real. With experience, a reinvigorated squad, and young guns like Tiago Splitter and DeJaun Blair, the San Antonio Spurs could avoid a first round exit this postseason. But can they go all the way?

If they can stay healthy they'll be a serious contender. The championship this year will probably be them against the Bulls. (or Oklahoma city thunder, but I doubt that). The West is about as weak as it has ever been.

    b) LOVE Manu Ginobili
    c) they are doing really well this year and I believe they could get far into the playoffs if now win them. Now hopefully they won't pull a stunt like they did last year.

As long as they have the line up they have, which has not changed in the 10 years that much. They are in it just like the Lakers. They are 1 behind the Lakers in championships this decade. Next year could be different,if Tim Retires.

The question alone got me to realize that the Spurs have a won/loss record that has surpassed most contenders. Which means that their chances are just as good as the rest. They have quietly gotten the job done, and their experience cannot be overlooked. Don't know much about their new players that you mentioned, but the club record does say something about the teams capabilities.
