The Oakland Raiders spent decades building a reputation as the toughest, meanest, dirtiest football players in the National Football League. The NFL Raiders said, "If you weren't cheating, you weren't trying." The Raider fans have followed along by creating Raider Nation -- the meanest and dirtiest fans in the NFL.

Police in San Francisco say two men were shot and injured in the parking lot of Candlestick Park after a preseason NFL game between the 49ers and the Oakland Raiders.
I remember living in South Central Los Angeles when I attended the University of Southern California. We lived comfortably among the seriously mean street gangs in the neighborhood, but we locked our doors when the Raider fans played at the LA Coliseum.
The Raider Nation fans that dressed up like pirates and scary costumes didn't bother me.

I've been a Raiders fan since 1982 and have never felt the need to be violent about it. But I have worked with people who were like that. One person I worked with was served with a restraining order by his neighbor because of his antics. I think all of this is more a reflection on our society as a whole than it is anything else. There are violent people everywhere who have no respect for the value of a life. America is becoming an immoral nation.

You are so right! What happened to compassion for others? It seems like most people don't care about anyone but themselves and what they want. It is a shame to go to a football game and have to worry about getting shot or beat up.

Al Davis has a hoodlum mentality,it rubs off on the fans.Before they left for Tennessee,Jerry Glanville brought this to the Houston Oilers.Many old-time fans quit going to the games because of the odious clods Glanville attracted.

The true Raider nation is the ones that dress up. They are there to have fun and support the Raiders. Some of them have had their particular custom for as long as they have been fans. Tweaking it regularly during the years to express themselves. It is the common fan that thinks it can resort to drunken violence.

The 'culture' of the Raiders has to been that of violence and win at all costs. The fans follow the lead set by the team, and the team follows the coach. Violence in sports/stands has been on a massive upswing in ALL sports......just as it has been everywhere else in our culture. However, I don't go to any NFL games that the Raiders are at. I just don't feel safe.

Raider fans stank up Candlestick Park Saturday and turned 49ers fans into animals. All the Raiders do is, "Just offend, Baby." The best thing the NFL could do is ban booze and the Raiders and we would return decency to the game. Either that, or change their colors to pink silver. Here's to 0-16 in Oakland.

Without a doubt! I went to a Raiders game quite a few years back. There were drunken fights in the stands and people falling off balconies, being taken to the hospital.....and that was a preseason game in Arizona!
