“No! No! No!” That wasn't just the reaction of Boston Celtics fans wondering why Rajon Rondo bumped an official. That wasn't just the Dallas Mavericks wondering how Oklahoma City beat their team in the final seconds of Game 1. That wasn't just the Memphis Grizzlies fans wondering how they gave up a ridiculous fourth quarter lead to lose against a Los Angeles Clippers comeback of epic proportions. This was a different kind of anxiety: one from Chicago Bulls fans worldwive.
In the final minutes of Game 1, Bulls guard and reigning MVP Derrick Rose tore the ACL in his knee. Approximate time of recovery? Let's just say you shouldn't be surprised if he misses some games next season. Just like that, Rose, who already missed a ton of games in the regular season due to injury, was put on the shelf the rest of this postseason. What won't be on the Bulls' shelf according to many observers? A championship trophy. The bright side is that the Bulls won Game 1 against the Philadelphia 76ers. The bad news is that while the Sixers series is winnable, there's no guarantees the Rose-less Bulls will make it past the second round -- let alone the next four games.
Starting in Rose's place will be the talented CJ Watson, who has looked impressive coming off the bench all season. Luckily for Bulls fans, they still have a team that plays hard, is all for one and one for all and is lucky enough to have the reigning coach of the year. Tom Thibodeau is on the sideline. Although, don't be surprised if he's questioned at all about his decision to keep Rose late in Game 1. In reality, with all of Derrick Rose's injuries this year, he may have seen his breaking point sooner than later anyway.
