Are Sports Fans Too Demanding?

When it comes to sports, can fans be too demanding? It's an interesting question. We, as sports fans, want the best for our respective favorite teams and athletes. Or do we just want the best for ourselves? Not all sports fans are super demanding, but a recent story regarding the Genoa soccer team in Europe reminds us some people are too fanatical for their own good.

During Genoa's game with Siena, fans were not happy with their team and soon became violent. They threw things at the soccer field, including fireworks. So what did the team do after fans protested their on-field efforts and style of play? If you guessed they kicked the fans out or had them arrested, you are mistaken. Instead, Genoa gave the fans their jerseys. They actually negotiated with these crazy folks! Since the incident, the fans have been banned and the club itself will not play any more home games the rest of its season. They've even sacked manager Alberto Malesani. Do you think sports fans can be too demanding?

In general yes - but there are many who just want to see a teams best effort consistently and if they don't win, well then there's always next year.

Not only demanding but pathetic. I love sports and played in College, that said If I see another grown man wearing a Football Jersey or another person pathetically begging for an autograph on a Baseball I'm going to puke.

Sometimes the customer is a psycho, and is therefore not always right. Sports are an area where this seems to be the case.

I'm going with a No on this one because sports fans invest a lot of money in tickets, a lot of time and energy in their passion (the sport), and they are extremeloy loyal to their favorite teams. Athletes get paid a fortune to bring in the wins and make the people who make them rich happy. Considering what they are paid, it is not too much to ask that they bring 100% to the game, and it's ok for the fans to demand it when they have so much invested. in it.

It depends on the sport, and the age group. Europe is well known for acting like total asses with deaths because of soccer craze. I find it stupid, never got that worked up over any childs game played with adults. I think Fans get ripped off for the prices. I don't go to any of them anymore, I could buy real estate for what they want for parking. The ticket even a nose bleed section is not worth it, and I could eat in very nice restaurant for what it costs for flat beer and a couple of hot dogs. The fans are not demanding enough. They should boycott for decent prices

I'm one of those sport fans sadly... :/ During the olympics (winter, if you want to go into specifics), I kicked my roomate out of the apartment because he wasn't rooting for the US of A. Sad, I know....but something happens to me every 4 years when the olympics comes....I become...something else..

winter specifics kicked roomate apartment rooting sad 4 years olympics

Furthermore, there's this girl in a program and she thought that softball consisted of male members, and I wanted to slap her. :/

They asked this question not too long ago right here on sodahead with a different incident. Sports fans aren't too demanding. Italians are just retarded.

It was, more or less, sarcasm. I have no problem with Italians. But all the little Mediterranean countries that obsess over soccer need to find something a little more worth their while to fight over. Like how much hair gel is too much.

Moreso that that alot of them are irritating. Ive got some in my family and a non sports fan wouldnt want to be anywhere near them when their watching a game. People make way too big a deal of it nowdays. I always loved baseball growing up and basketball but Ive gotta say to me football fans are the worst.

Yes, because sports are their whole life. They're as bad as these women whose soap operas dominate THEIR lives too. Everything in their life hinges on a television show and fictional characters. It's a very sad thing.

I think it's just based off the culture. Since you guys call soccer football, for us to call it anything but football sounds strange. It's amazing how we form our loyalties.

for one thing, nobody is holding a gun to these fans heads to make them go to a game....it is their choice to go, nobody is forcing them....and who do they think pays for all the damage done to these stadiums...the owners just jack up the ticket prices all that much more. Maybe if these europeons...(deliberate spelling), didn't act like hooligans and ignorant retards, prices might be more reasonable. Actually, i know what the problem is...soccer is so damn boring, they riot to entertain themselves. Jeez if i had to watch that crap for that long, i'd be pissed too...low scoring, grown men flopping around faking injuries...where is the appeal?

Most of the time they are, but in most cases they deserve to be thanks to the fact that sports teams have high ticket prices and then charge an arm and a leg just for a drink.

Still when you drop 100 bucks for one ticket then shell out another 10 bucks per beer. Have to deal with parking on top of it. Then you get treated to a bunch of 40 million dollar crybabies get trounced. I can see where people would get pissed.

The owners/players/teams want our support (MONEY). We don't want to support losers.

Fans who get violent over a game are just idiots. Don't know what your demanding when you riot because your team won/loss, but what you should get is a slap in the head.

In a sport like soccer, there has to be something to break up the monotony.
