Are Girl Gamers Underestimated?

But why should they? The only girls who do at the moment who aren't at gamaing conventions are generally attention seekers...trying to appeal to men by being "girl gamers". I play many games and rather well, but because girl gamers have such a bad rep now I just don't talk about it. Besides...I'm special because I game? Not really.

But that's because they're not as good as the average male.

My friend was playing a war game online (ps3) and she ended up having to tell all the Japanese guys what to do because they were getting their buts kicked and they were like wow/damn shes good XD

Well Miss Donkey (I added for the most part for a reasons) I wasn't being serious, obviously looks don't affect a person's ability to the majority of things. That would be like saying you can't mow lawns because you don't look Mexican, or you can't be a figure skater because you're too ugly. However there are situations where looks matter.

By a great deal of male gamers; yes. Ironically, a great deal of male gamers also realize the hard way that they misunderstood their female counterparts playing abilities by a long shot.

I don't online co-op much, but I can't say I ever recall loosing. People often boot me because they can't beat me. That, on the other hand, gets tiring.

not really. I dont get any underestimation playing online; just from my brothers friends. But when I can blow their asses up with my tank, shoot'm with my A-91, and take every opportunity to knife them in Battlefield 3; they know whose boss. :)

Hell yay we are so underestimated but you know what i say go head and think that it will make kicking your a** a whole lot sweeter seeing your expression in the end

I tend to rival my boyfriend in a lot of games and really enjoy playing games with him such as Age of Empires III, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, F.E.A.R 3, WoW, League of Legends and Diablo 3.

There are some girls that give us a bad reputation like the ones that feel the need that they have to announce they are a gamer girl as if they are the only one that exists. For example: "I AM A GIRL AND I PLAY COD" So bloody what? It's no shock that girls do enjoy playing games so when female celebrities "reveal" they are a gamer, I roll my eyes.

I have experienced abuse when gaming because of the fact I am female but I get used to it, ignore it and move on. In most games (not so much in Korean RPGs), they automatically assume you're a guy and that's okay for me and sometimes makes the gaming experience more pleasant.

Unfortunately yes but its entirely unfounded I have met many girl gamers who have given me a run for my money and im pretty skilled (not to toot my own horn)

I think that there should be more girl gamers, cause sex doesn't matter, It's awesome when girls are playing video games

They definitely get a bad rep. I personally like seeing girl gamers because it just makes video games seem more like a thing for everyone instead of something meant for only one gender.

Hell yeah it is! You have to be able to strategize well, and it's harder for men to do that.

LOL, there is no strategy in COD, play a real game like Battlefield 3 or Tribes and you can actually see team strategy and skill used.

It's just that I think all gamers I play with are males unless stated otherwise. So if a girl says she plays it is hard to believe, because they dont go like "HEY IM FEMALE LOOK AT ME PLAY!" of course men dont do something like that either.

When we have stream channels entirely dedicated to girl gaming and every wednesday is girls night on Xbox live, and we have people like girlpoison, who are MLG level FPS players, I think we can say girl gamers are getting up there.

Oh jeez here we go feminism time lol. My PERSONAL experience is every one of my female friends who games (and there's allot of them, some have been WoW'ing since the beginning) are pretty average. Not terrible, but just average. Generally they do have to be carried by the guys to push through the harder parts. That said my male friends get more practice. So who knows...but at this point in time girls haven't proven to me at least they have the same level of skill in this field.

Hot girls don't get a bad rap. The types of games they come out with now require weeks of no outside life besides school, work and eating. Girls like Aisha Tyler are the exception to the rule and... duh, if you host a show you should probably be familiar with what you're talking about.

Yes, also games are much more aimed at boys. The most unisex game I know, Minecraft has hardly any girls, and my sister hates it. I'd love to play a few games with girls, but none I know are interested. All we need is to spark interest and then gaming is unisex.

It would spark interest if gaming companies got over the idea that it's a boys' clubhouse, and their only target is men. There are great video games by Disney based off the Disney Fairies for example, that are popular with women.

That might be true for some. But I know a lot of girl gamers, myself included, who worship the violence too.
