According to AOL's year-end report on Hot Searches of 2010, the most searched-for celebrities this year include Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian. But one celebrity was head and heels above his competitors.
Tiger Woods, the subject of an enormously public sex scandal and subsequent divorce from wife of six years, Elin Nordegren, clocked in as the most searched celebrity of the year. Searches peaked in February, and again in late August, when his divorce with Nordegren was finalized and rumors of a $750,000 settlement surfaced.
Next on the list was Justin Bieber, likely due to his massive tween fanbase and more than six million followers on Twitter. Bieber has also been the subject of countless rumors and semi-scandals, including a radio DJ who directed a series of homophobic insults at the young star and his fans.
Also on the list were Lady Gaga, who rocketed to superstardom over the last two years with her eccentric outfits, controversial music videos and supportive fanbase; Lindsay Lohan, whose drug-related imprisonment even caught the attention of President Barack Obama; and of course Robert Pattinson and Kim Kardashian, for obvious reasons.
AOL also listed top searched in other a few other areas. "Bedbugs" was the No. 1 search term in the health category after it was revealed that America's bedbug population has increased 500 percent, and the BP oil spill was easily the most popular news-related search term.
