YES! I have very fond memories of Powwow! I used it from late 1996 until around 2000 or so. By the time they incorporated a proper buddy list (before that you just "bookmarked" people's Powwow ID's) I hadn't been using the random chat aspect of it as much, so I didn't really keep in touch with any of the random people who would page me on there, unfortunately. After the random chatting novelty wore off, I mainly used it to chat with co-workers after work hours and help them with computer problems. The only "stranger" I really remember from there was some "windowsntstudent" girl from my state who stopped chatting with me after an argument over terminology used regarding the Windows start menu, of all things. The "WinNuke" attack thing also happened during the Powwow era, and I remember having my computer protected from it and an alarm to tell me if others were trying it on me, and it actually went off once after some kids paged me, man did I have fun messing with them! Another powwow memory was a chat room called "The Steel Cage" (or was it spelled "Steele?") that was supposedly some WWE wrestlers chatting either from their homes while injured or backstage at Raw on a shared laptop. It seemed pretty legit, though to this day I can't say for sure if it was. Good times! About 5 years ago I came across news online that Powwow was being revived, and could be used by logging into private servers, but I guess nothing ever came of that.

Yep. LOVED pow wow chat! Loved it. I have not had a chat experience that is that much fun since they shut down. Many different rooms, many different forums, many different options/bells and whistles to play with while chatting.

That was a really fun way to connect and chat with people...back during the time when the Internet was still basically a new experience...AOL was king and people used Modems to download...14k was considered "normal" and 28.8K was considered blazing speed..LOL! Powwow was fun.

I came up with the term "Tribal Voice" during a dream last nite, so I wrote it down as soon as I woke up this morning. It wasn't until I logged into this site that I saw "POWWOW' and was disappointed that it was closed.
I don't remember my "handle" at the time (at the end it was "Scrambled"), but I did chat with Northern Sunshine and Bubbles and met both these wonderful ladies in my home town in northern Ontario.

Nothing against you Mag but I find magchat boring and isn't a good replacement for Powwow I don't think there is even a replacement that comes close to powwow, all thought I give u credit for coming up with your own program that is cool, GCN would come closer to a replacement tho.

Yes, twas a good place to be and Facebook is a pale imitation of the glory days at Bianca's. At least there you could personalize your little shack instead of everybody have the same start page.

Never could get into Facebook. It always seemed too impersonal and who in real life has thousands of friends unless you are really inventive in the sack.

powwow was the bomb of chat. the egg mcmuffin, to steal a lame commercial cliche.

it was the fist gen, all us generation xer's trying the boundaries of anonymous chat. it was a foray into how emotions and text could meld. it was global, (albeit english was the language), what an experiment, what a party. i hope powow does NOT rest in peace, but rather becomes phoenix like., somewhere, somehow, someday.
