He's been around a good while, although I suppose it could be said that much of his long-term success has been European-based...He is a very successful and excellent songwriter, singer, guitarist...Some in the U.S.A. might remember him for this relatively hit song in the U.S.A. from the late 80's as referenced in the clip below...This particular song, however, is not extremely indicative of the majority of his music, but still a great song IMO.

I wish he had as much popularity in the U.S.A.

It's a shame that he does not.

His talents definitely deserve it IMO.

If you are from the U.S.A., it would not be surprising if you never heard of him, especially since the late 80's.

Because of your response, I looked at a couple of his songs. I still don't recognize the name, but I do remember "Fool (if you think it's over)". I liked that song, but I didn't know the singer's name. I like it and he has some real talent. Thanks for the memory.

Some of the things I've heard here are too dark and sad for me. He Can make that guitar sing tho!

Interesting stuff. I've not heard of him, but liked it. The beginning struck me as a lil' Springsteenish.....though other's mileages may vary.

He's involved himself various music genres, but at his root he is an excellent, delta blues-influenced slide guitarist.

In more recent times, especially since his illness wit pancreatic cancer, he has also gotten into paintings of what else but "blue" guitar imagery --

Have the Blue Guitars collection very very good stuff plus most of his other releases.
So many excellent artists never caught on in the States lucky to live outside we get it all.
Matt Bianco being another example among many others.

    GREAT stuff IMO...Thanks for posting.

Don't know if you have tried, but there is NO music by Chris Rea available in the iTunes store that I can find.

I suppose it is of his own choosing, as I have come to assume that he has been rather disenchanted with the mass music industry over the years -- but not the music itself.

He never seemed to care for a pop or rock star type status from what I gather listening to a few interviews he has given over the years.
