Anne Hathaway Talks Dress Mishap: Are Wardrobe Malfunctions 'Devastating'?

On Monday, Anne Hathaway suffered an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction at the “Les Miserables” premiere in New York. According to the New York Daily News, she has now spoken to Vanity Fair’s Ingrid Sischy about the unfortunate moment when her Tom Ford dressed hiked up as she was getting out of a car.

Apparently, she said "my dress was so tight that I didn't realize it until I saw all the photographers' flashes," and describes the event as “devastating,” adding “I might as well have lifted up my skirt for them."

She also spoke about the incident on the Today Show, saying that it’s “very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it.”

She even managed to relate the event to “Les Miserables,”saying “I'm sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to 'Les Mis,' that's what my character is, she is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there's no social safety net." In a tight dress? Many people don't wear underwear in tight dresses to prevent the lines. Especially those that will be scrutinized for every little thing. Give her a break.

How can you possibly know if she intended for people to see? She very well could have not wanted to ruin the look of the dress or have a camera zero in on a panty line just to make fun of her and got caught in an unfortunate situation. I'll give her and anyone else that I don't know the benefit of the doubt.

She had a long dress and a tight dress -- a lot of women don't wear skivvies because even the "seamless" underwear aren't seamless and the alternatives are rather uncomfortable and/or infection causing. She could have worn a string up her butt, but that's not really many a womans' idea of a good evening. You don't expect your lady bits showing to even be an issue in a long dress, so to go commando isn't something to immediately rule out in this case.

Newp, I think the only one here who fell off a turnip truck here is you. Not everything is a conspiracy -- she doesn't need the publicity for crying out loud; this role could get her the Oscar provided Meryl Streep isn't doing much this year. She's not a known courtier of paparazzi. Sometimes unfortunate, embarrassing things just happen!
