On Monday, Anne Hathaway suffered an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction at the “Les Miserables” premiere in New York. According to the New York Daily News, she has now spoken to Vanity Fair’s Ingrid Sischy about the unfortunate moment when her Tom Ford dressed hiked up as she was getting out of a car.

Apparently, she said "my dress was so tight that I didn't realize it until I saw all the photographers' flashes," and describes the event as “devastating,” adding “I might as well have lifted up my skirt for them."

She also spoke about the incident on the Today Show, saying that it’s “very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it.”

She even managed to relate the event to “Les Miserables,”saying “I'm sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to 'Les Mis,' that's what my character is, she is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there's no social safety net." Do you think that wardrobe malfunctions are devastating, like Anne Hathaway says?

It was the most interesting shot that has come out of Hollywood since the Sixties. and Anne Hathaway handled it very classy. She is a class act.

I am certain this woman has never experienced a devastating moment in her life if she thinks that counts as one.

I would think that long-ass neck would be devastating during oral sex. Scares me, and I'm fearless. It looks like her head is sitting on a pedestal of some sort. wow.

I was in a hula show and my costume slipped down and my breast was showing. I did not know. My friend came up and yelled at me in front of the stage, with everyone's cameras flashing . I was so embarrassed. I did another show and Tahitian shirt lifted up and unhitched and fell to the floor. I picked it up wrapped it around me and slithered off stage.

She joined the ranks of Hilton, Lohan, Spears, and others who bare their privates in public. Hathaway has never seen photographers crowding forward to take flash shots of fame whores get out of limos? She was unaware she would be photographed? Unwilling participants? Does she mean the photographers grabbed her gown and tore it asunder? She got the benefit of coverage of her body and then she made a fool of herself by complaining and thereby guaranteeing people would look to see her photograph. She is definltely a believer in the canard "no publicity is bad publicity,"

To a certain degree - I'm sure every day people would be just as embarrassed if photos got out of them in this fashion. I agree with her statements as well, the media takes advantage of any situation and moves it to their money making advantage.

Yep. That was the first time she attended a premiere. That was the first time she ever saw photographers taking flash photos of stars getting out of limos. That was the first time she ever dressed commando style. Yep. And to top it off she thinks those photographers are amateurs and do not work for magazines and other media.

It doesn't matter if it was the first time or not, it's still shameful to have had happened period. It'd be nice if the media was held to a higher standard instead of this general attitude of "well it's the media so what do you expect". She may have had previous experience, she may have even made some mistakes in her choice of clothing - that being said, she's still a human being and I'll treat her with respect she deserves.

That is a laugh! Anne has been to lots of events and the cameras are flashing for minutes every time a celebrity opens a door. Anne knows those photographers are not rabid fans, but professional photographers and Anne knows her photos will appear in magazines, and on the internet. If you have seen the photos you can clearly see that Anne's eyes are focused on the ground outside the limo, and her glance could not possibly have missed her entire naked right leg. At no point did she make an attempt to cover her womanhood, which, by the way, was naked. There are sheer, seamless undergarments, including thongs, including pasties, but Anne was naked beneath her expensive gown. Anne got exactly the exposure she wanted; literally and figuratively.

I still say that from this side of it - it's easy to judge and assume what she knew, what she should have done differently. Perhaps she did make a mistake, perhaps she even was doing it for publicity - but if the media was held to a higher standard to begin with celebrities would not be pulling these types of publicity stunts anywhere near as often. On top of that, even if she DID make a mistake - she's human beyond her fame. I choose to treat people with respect, and this is just one example of that.

Higher standard? The cameras record reality. The cameras do not script and they do not cheat. Anne is aware of the reason Hilton, Lohan, Spears, and dozens of other publicity whores go commando and it has absolutely nothing to do with panty lines showing on gowns. Anne is aware that photographers are going to sell their photos to the media. Anne is aware that male stars have assaulted photographers and that photographers are everywhere. When Anne arrives in front of a theater and sees hundreds of fans behind roped off areas that she is going to be photographed 200 times before she walks the 50 feet to the doors, and she will have stopped mid-stride half a dozen times to permit the cameras to record her charms. Thousands of female stars have exited limos without showing their privates. Those that do show their privates do so repeatedly. Anne will do it again.

A higher standard would not be publishing wanted or unwanted photos of anyone's genitalia - or saying it's okay to do so just because they are media. It's not okay to do so whatever the cause that may have gotten them their to begin with. I have no way of knowing what Anne is aware of or not aware of, what her true motives were, or were not - I've not spoken to her, ever. I don't make automatic judgments when I don't have all of the facts.
If the media was held to a standard where this wasn't tabloid fodder - where it wasn't justifiable to do this, most often many of those who do this for the added attention wouldn't have a reason to do so. Give them more attention and media for the good things they do rather than the bad.
Even if Anne is to blame here, they shouldn't have published photos in my eyes, it's about ethics and they clearly have none - they just want to make more money. Her starting it doesn't hardly give them some excuse to continue it.

Get real. Have you been able to pick up a publication and see Anne's genitalia? Have you? You live a fantasy existence. Anne dresses as she does to please her fan base. Her agent insists upon it and the agent insists she be more risque. Anne would be a nothing were it not for tabloids.

If we expected more from actors in general - perhaps she would be. She has talent at what she does - but perhaps she does play it all up a bit to help her career. If you hate it so much - why do you seem so willing to settle for it? Just because something is a certain way currently doesn't mean it has to stay that way, doesn't mean we have to agree or support it. The media gets away with the garbage because people like you defend it saying it's the actor's fault - in reality it's both. If one factor is removed from the equation at least some of it will go down. And honestly - I don't pick up 'publications' that have just general celebrity gossip in them. Big minds talk about ideas, small minds talk about people - I'm not interested in whatever they are doing, I see the movies and that's about where it ends for me.

It may have been personally devastating for her to be exploited during a moment of vulnerability; however, while I am sympathetic, her moment of embarrassment is nothing compared to the genuine devastation suffered by many.

    Quite frankly ..
these 'celebs' seem to plan these things in their constant need for 'exposure' ..

DEVASTATING is losing a family member to a murder or some criminal activity (or horrific Accident)
DEVASTATING is surviving a Major Hurricane and picking yourself up by your bootstraps and doing what you need to do to survive (and not demanding anything at all .. being IGNORED all because you don't live in cities)
DEVASTATING is the effects of ObieCare and the increases in health care premiums, costs, co-pays, deductibles and new taxes that are in process for 2013 and beyond ..
devastating is a natural storm event ..

This is just sheerly a ploy for attention in any manner .. nothing more ..
