It’s a given when an actor goes on "Saturday Night Live" that he or she will have to poke fun at other celebrities. But this weekend, when Anne Hathaway took to the "SNL" stage, she scorched two of Hollywood’s hottest starlets: Claire Danes and Katie Holmes.
In her third turn as a guest host, she did her requisite, super-impressive singing monologue to promote her upcoming musical epic “Les Miserables,” which hits theaters on Christmas day.
But the bits that got the Internet buzzing were the ones in which she satirized Danes' Emmy-winning role on “Homeland” and took another stab at Holmes, who she also spoofed during her first appearance on the show in 2008. She played Danes’ bipolar character with a particularly amped-up edge. And the Oscar-nominated star mocked Holmes' crooked smile and penchant for hanging at the zoo with her daughter, Suri.
By now, the rich and famous must be used to being poked fun at in the midst of the late night sketch comedy show -- some even consider it a triumphant sign that they’ve become pop culture icons. But it’s a fine line between teasing a peer and taking a swipe at the competition. What do you think? Were Anne Hathaway’s impressions catty or funny?
