From weight loss to body piercings, movie stars are often asked to make drastic changes to their appearances in order to successfully embody new roles. Anne Hathaway, who is sporting a new look for “Les Miserables,” is no exception.
On Saturday, the 29-year-old star was spotted with a short pixie cut while leaving The Box nightclub in London with her fiancé Adam Shulman. Hathaway, who typically wears her hair long, is playing Fantine in the upcoming film adaptation of “Les Miserables.” The character Fantine is a single mother who sells her hair (requiring Hathaway to chop off her locks) and turns to prostitution in order to support her child.
Hathaway also had to quickly drop some pounds for the role in order to make herself look frailer for the death scenes. Despite reports that she was on a starvation diet, Hathaway’s rep maintained that she was in fact eating more than 500 calories a day. This is not the first time Hathaway has had to lose weight for a role; last summer she told Chelsea Handler that fitting into her skintight Catwoman costume (for “The Dark Knight Rises”) required a serious change in diet.
