Ann Curry May Do Stand-Up: Is She Funny?

Ann Curry is not exactly known for being funny -- in fact, that might be one of the reasons why she was dumped by the "Today" show as co-anchor. But believe it or not, she may compete in the annual "New York’s Funniest Reporter" contest.

"Since 2006, we’ve approached Ann every year and ... she hasn’t been able to make it," contest co-creator Ryan McCormick tells The New York Post. "However, this was the first year they reached out to us and asked a bunch of questions about the show."

McCormick, who once helped Curry prepare to do a stand-up routine at Caroline’s comedy club, says Ann is actually pretty funny. "Collectively, everyone gave her a crash course in stand-up comedy and, when the test came, she aced it," he says. "Ann gave an incredible performance with lots of energy and passion and she was an absolute natural. People were laughing so hard Ann could easily tour as a professional comedian if she wanted to." Who knew?

Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern's sidekick Robin Quivers and Fox News Channel's Steve Doocy may also compete in the contest. Should Ann Curry go for it? Or will she just embarrass herself?

When you are in the right place at the right time, this is no time to be asking for approval. it's time to boogie boogie rock and road all the way down from your soul to your toes. let the hecklers heckle, that's not an obstacle. don't ask us if it's okay, we will laugh at the and of the day.

She is very intelligent and aware, both attributes necessary for a funny comedian. Her timing is very good. I believe she will knock the audience dead. Of her possible competitors listed below, she will wipe the floor with Rush and Doocy (although both may get extra points because of their silly names-they could just introduce themselves and get a hee hee or two with those monikers. I think Ann would be very funny but Robin has the experience on her.
