That was a different time, and a very different country... life was simpler, we weren't baraged 24-7 by incessant advertising, notices, pagers, cellphones, Ipads, etc....back then it was party line phones, play outside till the street lights came on, drink out of the hose, and don't go near that weird guy that lives in that house over on elm street...I feel sorry for kids nowdays a peacefullness that is gone forever.. good luck.. and God Bless Andy! You were a big part of a lot of peoples lives.... you always showed the decent side of you to everyone. Would that we all show a little more "Andy" in all of our lives.

I can't even remember the name of the show, but the name of the rocket they built was Salvage One. It featured a cement mixer command module and the company logo was a buzzard. :-)

The Andy Griffith show was timeless and reached all ages and backgrounds and always had a great message. Mayberry was ficticious but it created a Utopia for us all in a different place and time. Compare it to todays reality shows and it's sad really. Andy will live on in each of us. The world was a better place with him in it. sheriff taylor

"The Andy Griffith Show" came on at 5:30 PM every week day on our local station, up until my high school days. I watched it religiously.

When I was younger I did. I always liked Barney Fife's character. It was an old show that even interested my generation.

I watch re-runs of Matlock all the time growing up. We would come back from swimming lessons and watch that show after The Price Is Right while eating ice cream. Or since this was when I was six we would watch the 96' Atlanta Summer Olympic games.

    Fun times.

Yes, I grew up with the Andy Griffith Show. Never missed it and still watch the re-runs sometimes. It was a funny show sometimes with a message or learning moment. It didn't need a lot of bells and whistles, it was all about the characters and the story line. One of the great shows from the past.
Never got into Matlock, don't know why.
But Andy always seemed to be a likeable, genuinely nice guy. I hope he is at peace.

Isn't that something... how all these characters had their own show later on?

That doesn't happen that often today. Lol

I enjoyed both shows.I even recall a made for tv movie in which Griffith went against type and played a villain! He was very convincing in the part too! He also played a hilarious villain,General Rancor, in the spy spoof movie "Spy Hard", which also starred Leslie Neilsen. RIP,Andy! aNDY

I am actually from the REAL Mayberry, where Andy Griffith was born and raised and where he based the Andy Griffith Show. The real name of it is Mount Airy, NC. You can look it up if you want. I know my old town is going insane about this right now because of his death.
