That was a different time, and a very different country... life was simpler, we weren't baraged 24-7 by incessant advertising, notices, pagers, cellphones, Ipads, etc....back then it was party line phones, play outside till the street lights came on, drink out of the hose, and don't go near that weird guy that lives in that house over on elm street...I feel sorry for kids nowdays a peacefullness that is gone forever.. good luck.. and God Bless Andy! You were a big part of a lot of peoples lives.... you always showed the decent side of you to everyone. Would that we all show a little more "Andy" in all of our lives.

Both shows. Matlock is on in the mornings here on the West Coast.

I didn't know Andy G. had heart problems until I read up on it. In the year 2000 he had a triple bypass then he was ok for awhile.

Andy Griffith was a great humanitarian too. Unlike a lot of celebrities he did a lot of good behind the scenes.

He was a great entertainer and "The Andy Griffith Show" set the standard for ensemble casts. But --- I think his greatest performance was in "A Face in the Crowd". That film still holds up today, and if you want to see how the media manipulates the aufience - see this movie.

So true! And thank you for the info on the film; I'll try to check it out. I blew up the TV back in '76 after reading an article about beta trances and TV but I love to see something worth watching. I will miss Andy and I'm so glad his country wisdom is still available.

No Television here either - it's the devil's tool. I threw mine away when "Northern Exposure" went off the air. I thought that was the most perfect show and a great message for society.

I do like to see movies and lucky for me I live in a city with a few art houses. Most of the films I saw from the past were in the revival houses. We had probably 10-12 in Minneapolis and then video came and destroyed them.

Wonderful! I remember that show and think it went off the air about the time I stopped. Mash and Soap left too and that did it. Nice to see someone else who doesn't do TV.

That is one of my favorites too. Though to see how talented of an actor he was -- "A Face in the Crowd" - nobody could give a performance like that.

    Both of them.

I remember "Opie and the Spoiled Kid" (The arrival of Arnold Winkler in Mayberry). And I remember when Andy handed off the Mayberry franchise to Ken Berry.

And I especially remember Matlock. "You wanna know what I think?"

I watched both series and saw just about every episode of The Andy Griffith Show in particular. I loved him as an actor and I'm sure he was incredibly humble personally. I saw a behind the scenes documentary of the Andy Griffith Show a while back and he seemed like he played himself in it, only as a sheriff. I saw many films he was in also, what a great person we've lost today.

    RIP Andy Griffith
