Anderson Cooper Gets Tough On Twitter: Was He Right to Defend Himself?

Anderson Cooper is over in Gaza at the moment to report on the Israel/Hamas conflict. But not everyone is happy with the job the CNN anchor has been doing, and some have even used Twitter to express their frustration. But Cooper isn't taking the criticism lightly.

"Foodie" @Pamela_Weiss sent Cooper a tweet saying "Report a fair story. Report facts. Why not talk about the rockets being fired FROM Gaza?!?" He responded with "ummmm.... I just did that and have beendoing repeatedly on twitter and on tv. Do you actually think before you tweet?" before adding "perhaps spend less time tweeting about coconut flan and more time actually following the news."

User @Rabbi_Sykes said "May just stop watching #CNN. Now @andersoncooper almost apologized for #Hamas dragging a dead 'Spy' for #Israel & yelling God is great! Oy!" Cooper's response was "excuse me, but how am I apologizing for Hamas by reporting them dragging a dead body through the streets? That is deeply offensive."

More abusive was a troll account who said "Didn't Cooper admit he was gay, if so let's let the Paelstians know and see what happens." Cooper replied with "wow, tough words from an anon Internet troll. why not use your name and photo, coward? Have some more fritos and keep typing." Was Cooper right to defend himself?

I am no CNN fan, but I think Anderson Cooper has the right to defend himself. After all they are taking pot shots (many just plain mean & personal) from the anonymous comfort of their homes and offices, while Anderson is right there in the action. If they don't like what he says or how he says it, pick up the remote and change the channel!! It's actually quicker and easier than tweeting...but then that probably doesn't satisfy the cyber-bully in them. Rock on, Anderson! I may not agree with what you say or your world view, but you have a right to express it!!

Absolutely. If someone attacks, you defend yourself. Unless the attack isn't worthy of a response. I think in this case a response was required.

Were you born this stupid or did you have to watch Faux Noise to help kill those few remaining brain cells? Traitors!? Traitors, really? If anyone is a traitor it would be anyone intentionally wanting America to fail or tax dodging at the level of the current Republican leadership.

Although I'm not a big Anderson Cooper fan, I definitely applaud him for sticking up for himself without being overly obnoxious about it. That's a tough line to tread in today's culture of "tweet before you think".

He's a normal person like everyone else, who happens to work on television. If someone says something offensive about me, on my twitter account, I would probably correct them as well. Anderson Cooper isn't acting like Chris Brown or something.

Not only was he correct in his assessment of the attacks against him, they were aimed at his sexuality not at his reporting of the news.

Seems there are a lot more homophobic bigots out there than most people think there are

He's criticizing them for criticizing him. It sounds foolish and unproffesional, he should understand he is a well known CNN anchor (not a very good one) and people are going to criticize him. Get used to it Anderson Cooper every time you lash back like that more and more people will be hungry to piss you off, like me now :) come back to the states because your not reporting the news, nobody can trust what comes out of your mouth.

Anyone has the right to defend themselves However, when you are use contaminated individual opinion and try to pass it on as fact that presents a problem . A truly good news journalist has the hardest job in the world ...... presenting both sides of a situation without personal opinion comments and then letting the viewing individual form his/her own opinion because of that trulyunbiased reporting. Unfortunately , there are very few true journalists ...most are of the pact mentality and have no real world experiences .

It is fair for him to rebut with his opinion but everyone knows he is a biased ass who apparently is also a smartass on twitter. CNN should do themselves a favor and get rid of him and Soldaid O'Brien. I have tired of their obvious personal opinions inserted into their 'reporting'!

I like Anderson--his sexuality has nothing to do with his job--granted sometimes it seems like he is clueless as to what he is reporting but in my opinion this is what makes him real--weather or not we agree with the way he reports the news is what keeps it real--I think

I never realized what a slimy little piece of crap Anderson Cooper was until the 2008 Democratic primaries. The little closeted Gay person (at that time), loaded his nightly show with only anti-Hillary pundits and commentators. The creep was so much in love with Barack Obama he could hardly stop glowing at the mere mention of Obama.

His disdain for Hillary Clinton (and most women), was blatantly obvious. Hillary stood in Obama's way and he was having none of it. Why are Gays so enamored with Barack Obama?

A really stupid remark, but consider the source. Jamie Foxx is hardly an intellectual giant Imagine if Kanye West had been part of the show. Idiots galore..

do you get the Jamie Foxx is a comedian? far as i know he's not the leader of anything.... are you really threatened by his opinion? You need to look at your faith if that can shake you. Fragile one, you are...

Alcoholics, drug addicts, and those who suffers other maladies, deserve a seat at the front of the bus, too.

Hillary Clinton's views on Gay/Lesbian rights are as supportive as the views expressed by Obama. But Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddux, Don Lemon, etc. slobbered over Obama.
