"American Idol" returns for its 12th season on FOX in January 2013 and after much speculation and negotiation, the judging panel has been finalized. The judges include three new major names and one popular "Idol" veteran fans already know.

Young Money Entertainment's queen and best-selling recording artist Nicki Minaj brings her unique style and perspective to "Idol." One can say she caters not only to current "Idol" fans with her star power as an active, relevant recording artist, but to the younger viewers her hit music appeals to. The rapping sensation could also potentially bring in hip-hop fans that may not have given "Idol" a chance had she not been selected as a judge. Speaking of bringing in new fans, country music star Keith Urban looks to do the same this upcoming season with his popularity.

Perhaps the biggest star of all is the iconic Mariah Carey, whose longevity in the music business is unmatched amongst her fellow judges. And then there is the likable and familiar Randy Jackson, who almost didn't end up returning for another season. Jackson remains as the only judge left from the inaugural 'Idol' season.

Oh sweet jesus at the panel of judges. Nicki, I like her looks (call me crazy) but she has no talent. Mariah has the vocal range but I don't trust her judgement. And I see Mr.Keith as bein the strong silent type or possibly a male Paula.

Haven't seen a single episode since Adam Lambert and the prior season with David Archuleta, and with Simon and Paula gone, it's bad now.

Nicki Minaj being there as judge just screwed everything up. Kill them all, please. Without the mean judge Simon and a balance judge for other genres of music besides Pop or Rock, this show went to the dogs. FOX, rethink this will you. Before you have a riot outside the front door.

Never watched this, never will. Or any other prime time or cable talent shows, or reality shows. These shows put actors out of work, and make huge profits for the networks because people watch this crap.

they always pick out my favorites (Sanjaya, Clay, Casey) and I just stopped watching it all together... But now I see the judges list... Nicki Minaj, and Mariah Carey... >.<

at least we still got Randy :D

I can't even keep track of who's one which show anymore, When they got rid of Steven Tyler and Jlo, it was over for me. It's turned into a circus now like X-Factor!
The Voice still has it though, they should learn from American Idol and XFactor not to change the judges!

I liked last years panel: Randy is Randy; JLo was warm, positive, caring and eloquent; Steven surprised me--he was great! This new bunch...sorry, I won't be watching. ; - <

I stopped watching it last season, its just not the same anymore..All the good and awesome judges that made the show, awesome to watch is gone, American Idol just isnt the same, its just stupid...Now a days.
