Amelia Earhart likely landed safely and waited for rescue.

On July 2,1937 Amelia Earhart disappeared and was trying to be the first women to fly around the world. She probably was running low on fuel when she landed on Nikumaroro Island, really small island some 1800 miles south of Hawaii. In 1940 some artifacts were found by local islanders that have since been lost.New evidence by a team called the International Group of Historical Recovery believe they have found enough evidence to link it to Amelia and her fellow navigator Fred Noon.Tiny human bone fragments, broken pieces of glass from the time period,a small knife, parts of bones from fish and birds near a campsite, and shells used as cups to catch rain water were found near by.No one knows how long they could have survived.Perhaps days, months or years. One thing researchers think is that they did survive on the small island.

One of the great mysteries. I've read recently that they're going to bring in some deep submersibles around that Island to scan the sea bed, though I'd have to say, anything as light as a plane may have been sucked out to sea. Who knows though.

I hope they find it.That would be a great find.If they do find it I hope they put it in the same museum as Linbergh's Spirit of f St. Louis.

I will have to figure out how to add links.I have read several sources from differant stories I have read on the subject online. They are in the process of running DNA tests on the bone fragments.
