With the cancellation of ABC's "All My Children" and "One Life to Live," it seems like the soap opera era is all but dead.
ABC said the decision to cancel the shows was based on audience research. Other networks have done the same: In 2009, CBS canceled "As the World Turns just three months after it nixed "The Guiding Light."
But while these shows may seem ridiculously over the top and out of date to many of us -- especially with fewer moms at home during the day -- some of our biggest stars actually got their start on the daytime dinosaurs.
"All My Children" alum Kelly Ripa, for one, was devastated by her former show's cancellation.
"All My Children was more than a job," the 40-year-old talk show queen said in a statement. "It was my family. It was there that I met my husband; it was there when my first two children were born; it was there where I met many of my life-long friends."
"It was the greatest training ground ever. I feel heart sick," she added.
And Ripa is not the only major celeb to come out of the daytime trenches. From Meg Ryan to Demi Moore to Sarah Michelle Gellar, click through our slideshow and let us know: Which soap opera alum became the biggest star?

Also I believe that Julianne Moore was on As The World Turns.
This poll overlooks people like Jack Wagner and Rick Springfield, who had bigger careers as musicians than as actors.
Jesse played young JR chandler back in the day!
ALSO! I know this wasn;t the question topic but I found these guys extremely sexy in both one life to live and all my children! LOL
He played Nash Brennan, Jessica's husband for a little
John Mcbain the cop on one life to live...So freakin sexy! LOL
AANND...The ever Yummy new guy Dr. Castio on All my children lol
I have not seen or heard from Sarah Michelle Gellar for years.
cheap to produce. Period."
Thanks. I've been saying the same thing for years. Another thing the reality shows do, is have extremely short season runs. So one show is on the air for say two years. But, they cram four seasons of about six or eight episodes each into those two years and brag "Hey look at us. We're in our fourth season! Everyone loves us!". When in reality (No pun intended.), most of these shows couldn't hold up in a traditional seasonal format.
But if you base it on congeniality, honesty, and respect towards others, then its no doubt Kelly Ripa.
(Alright, I admit I have the hots for her, a little bit.)
another hottie but no idea what he does now, probably another soap was
