Al Pacino is set to reunite with director Brian De Palma to make a biopic about disgraced Penn State coach Joe Paterno. When these two titans of cinema have previously worked together, they've brought us the classic movies "Scarface" and "Carlito's Way."

Edward R. Pressman, the producer of the project tentatively named "Happy Valley," has said " I can't think of a better duo to tell this story of a complex, intensely righteous man who was brought down by his own tragic flaw."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Pressman is in talks with "American History X" screenwriter David McKenna to adapt Joe Posnanski's biography, "Paterno."

As well as "Scarface" and "Carlito's Way," Brian De Palma is responsible for such classic movies as "Carrie," "The Untouchables" and "Mission Impossible." Pacino will next be seen as controversial record producer Phil Spector in a TV movie. Do you think the Joe Paterno story is suitable for cinema?

Why wouldn't it be? He is only the most prolific and enduring college coach in recent history. It's not like Paterno was the one being a pedophile and molester. That was Sandusky. Paterno messed up, sure. But, I think this is going to be a great biopic. There is absolutely no reason it shouldn't be made

The topic is suitable for the cinema. The director and actor together again... not so much.

Really take a long, close, uncomfortable look at Brian De Palma's filmography. He's one of the worst directors to ever make a great film, and that's THE UNTOUCHABLES. SCARFACE is a great comedy, but it's an awful awful crime drama.

So, say good night to the bad guy.

It will be disturbing. That's obvious. If it can be done, these two can do it. It would be an interesting line to watch them toe... or completely trip over and blow up... in the true Pacino way. LOVE HIM.

If you want to stir up crap about an issue, make a movie. If you want a dignified search for truth and a deterrant to such future situation, you make a documentary. Some one will do it, but none really want this sensationalized from either side.

Pacino will not make a useful film. Where will the actors come from when they are certain to be branded for life for their appearance!

Could not have seen dePalma doing this (I keep picturing Jerry Sandusky screaming, "Say hello to my little friend"), but the subject matter (especially the fall-from-grace aspects of it) should make for one helluva film. Go for it, Brian.

Yes, but only if it raises awareness of the issue. The issue is that as a society we condone child abuse. We yell about how evil and wrong it is-- yet if your father, uncle or friend were the child abuser would you turn them in?

I think that the fact that you are making this more about him being "gay" rather him being a pedophile. Very rarely does pedophilia = homosexuality. It, like rape, is much less about sex and more about power. He had ACCESS to young men, not young women, so if he had been a coach for a girls school, it might have gone the other way too.

But it's pretty clear that you equate "gay" with "pedophilia".

Disrespect to the victims' don't do it; but instead wait to see if any of the victims write a book about their individual ordeal with this guy, then perhaps a movie if tastefully done for tv not the big screen. The only work of substance he's done since HEAT and DONNIE BRASCO are the HBO films he's done, like YOU DON'T KNOW JACK or ANGELS IN AMERICA.

Nope, I've seen none of those. But all the movies IMPORTANT TO ME were excellent like Scarface, Heat, The Godfather, Frankie & Johnnie, Devil's Advocate and the Insider. He beats all the young actors today, IMO.
