I love love love AC/DC....I have seen them in concert more times than I can count, own everything they release and the whole nine yards....I love them! However, they are not heavy metal but hard rock. I know there is a fine line there.

The band that started it all for Heavy Metal is none other than Black Sabbath. They are the pioneers in my opinion.

AC/DC was the first true heavy metal band, but I think Led Zeppelin were the true pioneers that paved the way for AC/DC

In hindsight after posting this several months ago, I'd have to say that Black Sabbath are the pioneers of Metal.

There were many bands before AC/DC , Like Hendrix maybe, but AC/DC made it a lot more fun

They are good, I agree, but they did not invent heavy metal. Many give that honor to either Black Sabbath or to Uriah Heep. Other contributors might be Blue Cheer or even the Blues Magoos jams. Anyone not old enough to know rock history would credit AC/DC and think nothing existed before they were born.

Im not sure, I consider AC/DC hard rock not so much heavy metal, I dont care for a lot of heavy metal bands. AC/DC is the band that first got me interested in hard rock, I give them credit for opening my mind to a whole new genre of music.

I agree with most of the posters about Black Sabbath since they're were the first REALLY heavy bands and their lyrics etc.

Tbqh, I personally dislike AC/DC and consider them the Nickelbacks of Classic Rock.

AC/DC was very influential in the rise of heavy metal but they are not pioneers to it. there have been other bands before they had some what of a heavy sound but it was black sabbath that really got it just right.

One of... I would not say the pioneers... I would agree that they were one of the pioneers of Heavy Metal, but Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Steppenwolf and others were earlier pioneers.

I've seen hundreds of rock concerts. I have never seen anyone with as much non-stop energy as Angus Young. He is unbelievable! I've always liked AC/DC, especially the early stuff with Bon Scott.
