SLIDESHOW: Biggest Oscar Snub?
7 of 8
Albert Brooks, "Drive"
Brooks was considered a shoo-in in the supporting actor category for his role as a gangster in "Drive," but he was overlooked. (So was Ryan Gosling.)

We're so psyched -- and a little bit shocked! -- that Melissa McCarthy received an Oscar nomination Tuesday morning for her hilarious, raunchy role in "Bridesmaids." But other celebs were not so lucky.
Like Leonardo DiCaprio, who was snubbed in the best actor category for his role as an aging, sexually repressed J. Edgar Hoover in "J. Edgar." DiCaprio won praise and a Golden Globe nod for the role, but critics were mixed on the movie (and the makeup).
Bad-ass "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” heroine Rooney Mara scored a best actress nod, but director David Fincher was ignored (the movie was also left out of the best picture category). And George Clooney praised his, er, "gifts" at the Golden Globes, but Michael Fassbender was left out of the best actor category for his buzzy role as a sex addict. What a "Shame."
From DiCaprio to "Cars 2" to Steven Spielberg, click through our slideshow and let us know: What was the biggest Oscar snub this year?

I'm also annoyed that Harry Potter was snubbed. It was better reviewed by critics than any of the nominees in the Best Picture category.
Btw, Cars 2 was terrible and should never have been made considering how good the first one was.

a joke.
From what I've seen, I'm surprised Tintin didn't get nominated for Best Animated Movie. However, I am happy that Cars 2 wasn't nominated.
I also feel bad for DiCaprio. I genuinly like him.
Seriously, AMPAS? Only TWO nominations for Best Song? A lean year, yes, but there ARE more songs. Yet as usual, NO respect for music in the movies! In the last decade, this category has declined both in broadcast performances [abbreviated medleys to rush through - even tho they recently did an extended medley of NON nominated songs!?!] and in nominations / wins [two melody-less rap songs have won - c'mon, there are fifty music awards shows; THIS is the Oscars!]. Academy voters obviously confused the brilliant scene in Hustle & Flow where they showed HOW a rap song is constructed with the song itself being considered brilliant - which it is far from! Can anyone out there recall how it goes? It was just a couple years ago! Now hum Moon River.... Most of this problem stems from allowing those who AREN'T in music to vote in a category they nothing about. They don't allow it in other categories, so why MUSIC?
Seeing this disrespect depresses me. I still haven't gotten over "I Believe I Can Fly" and "Out There" from Disney's Hunchback - two of the best musical numbers from stage or screen in the last few decades - not EVEN being nominated in 1996! And this reminds me of a 60s album my radio DJ dad once told me about that featured great Oscar losers - every one a classic cherished melody that LOST the Best Song Oscar. Today, if the album was Great Oscar Nominees, none of today's winners could even replace one loser on that album! I'm just sayin'...
