Somebody must have realized that they could cash in on that controversial Time magazine cover. TV production company Collins Avenue (makers of "Dance Moms" and "American Stuffers," is developing a reality show about mothers who breastfeed older children, the New York Post reports.

breastfeeding

The health benefits of breastfeeding (for mom and baby) are well known, with most doctors recommending exclusive breastfeeding for at least the first six months of a child's life and then breastfeeding while supplementing with food for at least the second six months. The World Health Organization encourages nursing until at least age 2.

But somehow, the sight of a mom breastfeeding a child over two tends to freak people out, even though the medical advice is mixed on when you "should" stop. "Experienced pediatricians realize that the benefits of breastfeeding don’t just magically disappear after one year," Karen McGratty, a lactation consultant who is nursing her 3-year-old son, told the Post.

"I didn’t set out to nurse a 3-year-old," mom Jessica Cary told the Post. "But two years came and went. Now breastfeeding and mothering are so intertwined for me." Are you interested in learning more about moms who can't give up breastfeeding? Or not in the slightest?

Breastfeeding has become the new vehicle for women with exhibitionist tendencies.

I can pee 5 meters away from the toilet but you don't see me on reality TV showing everyone do you?

Voyeurism is alive and healthy in the US. Cast your eyes at the HBO lineup where softcore porn is the norm: Boardwalk Empire, and True Blood are two examples...and it's not just HBO--Showtime and Cinemax also have their own soft porn shows also . Cable--Not for the Faint-At-Heart. Voyeur Paradise.

Scary, isn't it? Honestly, I give it two years, There are enough voyeurs out there to keep it going for awhile.

theres nothing sexual about breast-feeding, except for those that have some serious issues.

Breastfeeding is perfectly normal, I know. It's when you put it on the air for entertainment, it generally turns into pornography.

Once children are able to eat solid foods, they should be taken off the tit. I would never watch a show like this.

    1. It's fresher.

    2. It's cleaner.

    3. The cats can't get to it.

    4. It's easier to take on a picnic.

    5. "It comes in such cute containers!"

I honestly didn't know theyt were pulling boobs out in restaraunts. Thats just wrong. Go to the bathroom with that or better yet don't eat out when your baby is that small. Have respect for your surroundings.

Maybe because this question is asking if it's a good idea as a television series. Whether or not someone agrees with it doesn't mean they think it would make a good reality show...

Well if people are fully supportive of this issue, why would a reality show about the subject cause embarasment or negative reactions? A t.v. Show is the number one way to get a message out and show what something is all about. In my opinion either you support it or you don't. Or are we talking closet supporters that cringe when actually confronted with the issue.
  • Michelle Sybil 2012/07/11 02:21:53
    Michelle
If they wanted to get a message out, they'd make a documentary special, not a reality TV series. Just because you support an issue doesn't mean you think filming unremarkable families with this single notable quirk and then pulling an episodic series out of their footage will be interesting enough to watch.

I was reading posts by people on another site regarding this issue. It was sparked because of that Time magazine cover "are you mom enough'. My opinion is that while people can tout all these benefits they seem to forget that the poor kids involved could face ridicule later in life when these pictures or re-runs are thrust in their faces by someone cruel. I just think it's not fair to the kid eventhough mothers think they are doing whats best now. And i'm talking about older kids being breast fed not babies. And yes I breast fed both my babies until age one.
