Its easy to become addicted to a good game.

But its not easy to make a good game aha

For many who find life quite hard, video games are an easy escape which often effects a persons life and mental health more than any illegal drug.

There's a difference between, children and adults, kids get over exited about things like that, whereas ones of older age can choose not to play like the man did. Really I think it was his fault since he could of made the choice not to play that long, cause I like games but even with ones that are my favorite I know when to stop

The only time i've managed to stay up and force my self to stay awake in a video game is if i'm fighting a tough boss, and i paid hell to get to that boss, but that was the earlier days, now i've learned to train in the beginning, no matter how tedious this is, so when i get to the boss, it makes light work of him.

Subscription games like WoW are designed to be addictive. Blizzard has taken everything that made prior MMOs a success and multiplied it by ten. The result is a game that provides people with continuous dopamine kicks whenever they find new, better gear or level up. Add to that the social aspect, the feeling to be needed and valued by a MMORPG guild, and you have one hell of a digital drug.

That being said, there are many people that can handle their recreational drugs. People who lose control and play 24/7 until they lose their wife, their job, and sometimes their lives due to embolisms or dehydration, are a minority. It's the same as gambling addiction, shopping addiction, or even workaholism. Everything that tickles the dopamine reward system of the brain -- eating, sex, posting on SodaHead -- can become an addiction for people who are genetically predisposed for addictive behavior. In other people, the reward system resets itself after some hours, the current activity is no longer interesting, and they are free to go after their daily chores. For that reason, I'd never advocate a ban of potentially addictive games. I'm also against alcohol prohibition. People who can't handle their kicks need to learn to avoid them.

I play for hours some weeks and don't play for weeks at a time. I don't have an issue.

I am sure some people get addicted as you can get addicted to pretty much anything.

I do play but I know when I should stop. They have done studies that show that gaming can excite the brain in the same way that drugs do and it can be very easy for some to become addicted.

To be fair yes most gamers can get addicted to a game for a couple days (by which I mean we come home and immediately play for hours) but anybody with a sane thinking mind can quit doing something (video games, TV, Internet, working out, whatever it may be) once there body or the responsibilities come knocking

I have not played the second Diablo game in a year since my computer's information got dumped by accident. I am busy getting through my studies at the moment, if I had the downtime to play I would. Was close to starting the 5th act on there. When I am re-interested in doing so then I will.

I put Yes thats why I don't play. But I do play video games. A lot. And I find it easy to get sucked into a game. Especially rpg's. I've beaten Mass Effect 1 4 times. Mass Effect 2 5 times. And I haven't played Mass Effect 3 because my xbox won't read the disc. Sad story. I have beaten fallout 3 17 times. Beat it last night. And fallout new vegas 5 times. And I do most of that over the summer. And it also builds up after school. But when I say a lot I mean more than some people. Now days kids play video games a lot so a lot means more than some

When I was younger I used to have problems with playing games, but as I've gotten older there are just way more important things in life than video games. Though every so often when a game I really like comes out I use my free time to mostly play it, but that doesn't include sitting in the front of the TV for 48 uninterrupted hours.

I play video games a couple times a week. I don't let it get addictive because I have control. And a life.
Even before my daughter was born, I'd generally get one day a week to seriously sit down and play, any other time it was for maybe 20-30 minutes before I had to do serious things.

I'd also add that before reading the article I could have guessed the region this happened in. If any place has an issue with gaming addictions it's Taiwan and South Korea. Seems like all these cases come out from there.

Well said, Atrum Angelis. I love video games, but some of these people need to get a life. I'll bet you a number of them have never even been on a date or kissed a girl. They've probably never even moved out of their parents' basements. It's sad.
