No. 13 Illinois will face the Pac-10 champion USC Trojans in the Illini's first Rose Bowl appearance in 24 years. USC has a lot to prove as a two-game loser who didn't go to the BCS Championship like some other schools. Illinois hasn't played a bowl game since 2001.
Kickoff: January 1, 1:30pm PST
USC has a lot to prove. Illinois lost to 2 unranked teams, though the did beat #1 Ohio State. Illinois gives up too many yards on defense (355.4) and depends on its rush offense, which USC will shut down since 'SC gives up only 79 yds/game on the ground.
Look for big Fred Davis (winner of the Mackey Award) to dominate receiving and Chauncey Washington to run all over Illinois.
Fight On!
Illinois' rushing offense can not be stopped! Becides it's great being the underdog.
Illionis is an outstanding team. The games they did loose (iowa(6-6), michigan(8-4), and mizzou(11-2) no loosing records) were not only close but decided on stupid penalties and turnovers in the 4th quarter.
USC lost to stanford(4-8) and oregon(8-4).
But the regular season does not matter now that they are about to play. For they played different teams with different circumstances.
The winner will be the team that does not have the stupid penalties and turnovers. Very close game and will be decided in the 4th quarter or maybe overtime!!!!!!!!!
I think USC takes it. It really doesn't matter to me, so I won't be actually rooting for USC, but I think they'll win. Don't worry though Fef, you don't want me rooting for them anyway. I root for the Dolphins and the Miami Hurricanes, as well as the fact that I was rooting for West Virginia to get in the National Championship game, and look where that got me.
another "homey". I don't know if the cold set in up there (Los Angeles has nice 70 degree weather today) and affected all your football judgment :) but Illinois won't win outright. I look forward to chatting with you on January 1st. Care to make a virtual wager?
I will tell you something, I don't cry at much. But a humiliating loss really depresses me. Then my dad always reminds me, "Hey, 2 billion Chinese didn't even know we played today."
I can see that happening with other schools, but I hope 'SC doesn't see it as playing down to Illinois, which beat Ohio State and has a great offense. We will need to play our "A" game. Coach Carroll better let the team know Illinois has some talent, compared to UCLA or Idaho Vandals.
i feel an upset here! sorry fef, your USC team might be in for a disappointment. illinois has surprised me this year and there are times when they look so-so but i think that their surprise trend might continue...if USC wins, i'll be happy for you.
'SC has looked so-so, but not when we had a healthy team and in the big games. We got up for Nebraska, Notre Dame (rivalry), ASU and played well enough to beat UCLA by +20. But I hear ya', they didn't play to their potential this year and certainly didn't play consistent Trojan football.

Come On! LSU scores 48 points and still looses to a 4&4 team and they are chosen to play OUR rival, Ohio State.
Illinois is going to go down BIG!

I already have my victory outfit ready ;)
