Rapper 50 Cent (né Curtis Jackson) was hospitalized on Tuesday after being involved in a car accident. According to his official website, Jackson's bullet-proof Chevy Suburban was rear-ended by a Mack Truck driven by a 61-year-old man. Lindsay Lohan also collided with a semi a few weeks ago, but that was her fault. There was nothing 50 Cent could do about this one.
Jackson's SUV nearly flipped over on impact, but fortunately he and his driver escaped with minor injuries. The man responsible for the accident claims the load in his truck shifted and caused him to lose control of the vehicle, just as traffic suddenly slowed ahead of him. 50 Cent was placed on a stretcher and transported to a Queens hospital, where he was treated for back and neck injuries.

This weight is equivalent to five adult elephants with a height of 13 feet at the shoulder, weighing approximately 7,700 pounds each on roller skates. Now imagine trying to stop that much weight moving 65 mph in an instant that a suv or other vehicle cuts in front of you trying not to miss their exit.
I have camera's on board, and most would be amazed at the idiocy of the common driver in front of a semi. Too many don't realize how many lives are actually saved each day by a conscientious alert truck driver.
National statistics show that 98% of all semi and auto related accidents are the fault of the auto, although the immediate finger is pointed at the truck driver. Most of these accidents are caused by inattentive or distracted drivers at the wheel of an automobile. Texting, eating, applying make-up, drinking hot beverages, scolding children, arguing with passengers, or simply day dreaming. A 40 ton semi can turn an average sedan into an ink spot on the highway with very little impact to the big truck. Drivers get less aware, the closer they are to their home or office. Regular routines cause a lackadaisical monotonous reaction to activities around the unaware driver. This is a recipe for disaster.
I wish you safe travels every time you get in your truck. =]
You are giving too many too much credit in the common sense dept. Unfortunately, as is obvious by the state of our nation, it is in very short supply.
People are too damn concerned with their own life and their own problems a lot of times. Other times, they are doing things that have no business being done while driving.
Yeah, does anyone else find that EXTREMELY ANNOYING?!
Big rigs need A LOT more room to stop due to the size of the vehicle and they weight of the load they are transporting. People need to be very careful when driving around them. Give them space (on every side of you), if you are going to pass do so quickly, and for the love of god don't cut them off if you're not looking to get into an accident. Don't try to fight with a big rig. They are ten times your size; you will loose. Drive defensively not offensively. Better safe than sorry.
