20,000,000 Minecraft Registrations: U Jelly?
Minecraft has nearly 20 million registered users and nearly a quarter of them paid more than $20 to buy the game (cha-ching!). From the Minecraft website:
These numbers mean that Minecraft will surpass the 20,000,000 registration mark this week. Yet, most adults haven't heard of one of the most popular internet games ever. Markus "Notch" Persson designed and programmed the game in less than a week. Wikipedia describes Minecraft, its origins and popularity:
These numbers convert to millions and millions of dollars in profits for a Swede nearly 30 years old.
This reminds me of the "Jump to Conclusions Mat" from "Office Space":
"U Jelly?" refers to a meme:
Minecraft is developed by Markus Persson. It's been under development since about May 10, 2009.
19,685,555 registered users, of which 4,601,140 (23.37%) have bought the game.
In the last 24 hours, 51,292 people registered, and 7,925 people bought the game.
The game was officially released at MineCon on November 18, 2011. Minecraft was developed for about a week before its public release on May 17, 2009, on the TIGSource forums, where it gained a considerable level of popularity. It has been continually updated and patched since then, and while it was still in alpha release, it garnered several hundred thousand sales and received critical notice and acclaim from many reviewers. It passed a million units sold on January 12, 2011, less than a month after reaching Beta. By November 7, 2011, the game had sold 4 million units.
These numbers convert to millions and millions of dollars in profits for a Swede nearly 30 years old.

"U Jelly?" refers to a meme:
U Jelly? is an online catchphrase used as a shorthand for “you jealous?”

You can download free versions of the game and the mods will work, but if you play multiplayer exclusively, I'm not sure there's any point.
Here's a link to system requirements for playing it.

Some of my best creations
I have to say though, using memes and then feeling the need to explain them is cringeworthy.

For the ship and the hotel, it was just a lot of trial and error until it looked right. I experiment with a lot of mods too to get the different textures and extra items. The hotel has working elevators inside and 18 rooms set up with a bedroom, kitchen and lounge area.
I've been playing since the release of Classic. Great game.
