10 TOP GREATEST ARTIST of ALL TIME VH1 PICK YOURS FROM HERE and give me your list!

Cat 2011/03/28 00:13:42
I've been watch VHI 100 TOP GREATEST ARTIST of ALL TIME VH1 this after NOON HAVE Heard so many amazing performers and songs I've missed hearing or have not heard in a bit. WHO ARE YOUR FAVE TOP 10 FAVE ARTIST of all TIME?

You guys love lists, and we love to start our holiday weekend early, so thanks VH1 for putting together this 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time countdown. (Spoiler Alert: No Wavves…) You should compare it to VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists Of Rock & Roll from 1998 (back when VH1 was VH-1) to see some of the overlaps/differences. For starters: The Top 5 “Rock” vs “Of All Time” is the same group, except for Jimi Hendrix who’s been pushed to No. 6. It’ll also give you an idea of how VH1 defines rock & roll. And how much it sucks to be the Eagles. Trivia: Which artist has drunkenly crashed his car the most times? Highest ranked artist to be pelted with plastic bottles? Did Biggie beat Tupac? Which version of Journey made it? But it’s not all about long-suffering has-beens: I, for one, am happy for Def Leppard.

Wow, a lot of people have 2nd rate artists on their lists that will be forgotten in 50 years. Here's a legit Top 10 based on a comprehensive knowledge of music history that was developed over decades:
    1. The Beatles (duh!... the ultimate no-brainer)
    2. Bob Dylan (greatest songwriter ever who was not named John Lennon)
    3. Led Zeppelin (these guys were so good it hurts my brain to think about it)
    4. The Rolling Stones (they have volumes upon volumes of great music)
    5. Elvis Presley (had the greatest voice ever, only The Beatles have outsold him)
    6. Bob Marley (on a spiritual level no one can compete with him)
    7. Jimi Hendrix (perhaps the greatest single revolutionary in rock history)
    8. U2 (30+ years of amazing music and they're not done yet)
    9. Stevie Wonder (if any musician can be called a genius, it's Steveland Judkins)
    10. (tie) Chuck Berry (he basically invented rock 'n roll as we know it today)
James Brown (I dare you to find an artist he didn't influence)

Just missed the cut: Prince, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Little Richard, Pink Floyd, The Police, The Beach Boys, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Aretha Franklin, Buddy Holly, Steely Dan, Nirvana, Marvin Gaye, Queen........

    1. Led Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin)
    2. The Beatles (the best pop band of all time. Everyone can sing a Beatles song, kudos George Martin)
    3. Eric Clapton (the most consistant artist, one of the greatest guitarists/writers)
    4. Paul McCartney (the Beatles, Wings, how many of his songs can you sing?)
    5. Paul Rodgers (Vocalist/Writer of Free, Bad Company, the Firm, Solo,w/Queen)
    6. Elton John (In his heyday he played every genre, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, done it all)
    7. Frank Sinatra (the ultimate in personal phrasing, consistently good)
    8. Elvis Presley (The Voice of pop music)
    9. Ray Charles (He is R&B; and soul, and funk, rock owes him a big nod)
    10. J. Geils Band (The greatest live act ever...it is a party. great musicians and showman)

    Sorry about all the detail.

It's impossible to do All-Time: we know so few now of the early birds.
But in 5 mins interupted by other urgent matters, these have got to be in your top considerations, performance, hit-wise and media influence-wise - strongest near the bottom:

    The Carpenters
    Creedance Clearwater Revival
    Chicago
    Bee Gees
    The Doors
    Ray Charles
    Tom Jones
    The Beach Boys
    The Four Seasons
    The Who
    The Platters
    ABBA
    James Brown
    Bing Crosby
    Elvis Presley
    Michael Jackson
    The Beatles

    That's w/o considering females:

    Connie Francis
    Linda Ronstadt
    Karen Carpenter
    Petula Clark
    Aretha Franklin
    Diana Ross
