It's garbage - full of half truths, lies, misinterpretations, and discredited information - with just enough real in it to make normally intelligent people buy into something totally stupid.

Get over it - If you want to hate him - hate him for what he's actually doing
    - not what you think he's doing,
    - not what you think he might do,
    - not where you imagine he was born
    - not what your right wing buddy told you he might be thinking about doing in the future...

.... and not for what some cretin with a high end graphics card and a right wing agenda that rivals Mussolini posts on You Tube as the *truth*.

I'm sad that so many intelligent people are letting their fear and hatred cloud their minds.

As entertaining as it is watching y'all trying to educate a 14 year old proudly brainwashed by his parents/pastor, I thought I might actually comment on the video... which still has nothing to do with the Big Bang, any god, or even the Flying Spaghetti Monster (who no doubt will someday flog Steve-o with his Noodley Appendage)...

I like this film, it's simplified, but not dumbed down, and easy to follow for most kids....

Steve-0, and is that Steve zero or is he pretending to be the dip from Jackass? Well, he's 14, and while I'd say he is the product of his age (I'm 14 and I know *everything* and adults know nothing) - he does sound kinda stupid, rather than just brainwashed. I hope there is some poor frustrated science teacher out there wondering if he's allowed to give a mark lower than "F" without "damaging the empowerment ability of the child".

  • +2 raves Okay, here's the "mom" answer: I want to know what the rest of the sentence was. ... Okay, here's the "mom" answer: I want to know what the rest of the sentence was. Is there a reason for what she said?

Are there issues that have her in a panic? (I'm going to assume there is nothing like a substance abuse issue or anything like that, but what about other things? Is there a history of bad decisions, or arguments?)

Is the money you put away now the only way you're gonna get to college?

I'd not phrase it that way, but as a parent of a 16 year old, I do put restrictions on some of the money he earns - some of it MUST be saved - for school trips I can't afford, for college - or whatever. If some of it is banked, he has it. For my 14 year old, I want her to gain some concept of handling money, but at 16 you should have a bit of a grip on that already.

Does she have the right to "dictate"... eh, depends a lot on the situation - generally, I'd say no - but I'd also stick a heck of a lot of conditions on that answer.

I don't think that she has any right to 100% control (again, assuming no serious issues) - you did earn it, but most 16 year olds still need some boundaries - and learning how to budget and plan is part of that.... the attitude sounds harsh - but I've no idea what's behind it...

(and yeah, I do know of one situation where the parent was simply being a bitch - she took the money from her kids- all of it- to "save" it, and then used it as her party money)

My mother was a single parent 45 years before it became popular. It didn't make her a worse parent or a better parent (her mental health took care of that). I admit to a bit of bias.

Single parent is also a misnomer. I know many mothers (and one father) who are the sole parent despite being married. Donating sperm, even to your legal wife, may make you a "father", but it does not make you a "dad". (nor, for that matter, does giving birth; it makes you a mother, but not a "mom")

The whole "children need a mother and a father" sounds good in theory, but realistically, aside from a couple of idealized years in the 40's and 50's (and mostly in the US), it's completely outside reality.

  • +15 raves Safety. We live in a society where air conditioning in your car is considered safety equipment. ... Safety. We live in a society where air conditioning in your car is considered safety equipment.

I've sent two kids through high school with uniforms (no, not private school), and one starts next year.

It has saved me time, money, and a ton of BS- and as my Girlchild is about to start HS, I suspect the amount of early morning fights that'll be prevented will save me an ulcer.

Safety: my kids go to a huge Collector school. 1100 plus kids from a dozen different feeder schools. Anyone not in a uniform sticks out- big time. Multi school gatherings? Very easy to figure out who belongs to whom.

Money: Everyone whines about having to shell out money for the uniform. I have one question... if you don't buy a uniform, does this mean you can not buy your kid school clothes? Do your kids not - oh *grow*? I had no idea that naked was a clothing option....
also first thing most schools do? Set aside a section of the message board for used clothes exchange.

Time: Get real. It's not like you don't do laundry anyway. The uniform company I have to deal is willing to live up to the terms of their contract- and I have a 6'4" and still growing teenager- that's made for some special orders (the "walking" shorts were hysterical)

Freedom: First Question: what do you wear to work?
Aside from the fact we live in a society where kids are being murdered for their *shoes*, and dressing like your favourite TV slut is all the rage, seriously, what do you wear to work? It's a uniform - there are guidelines, a dress code, safety equipment... it's a uniform. Also the majority of (non private) schools that have uniforms also have some understanding of teenagers... so there is a uniform, but it's reasonable. Oh, and the pants... toss a decent looking polo shirt over top and Ta da... acceptable "go find a job" uniform.

DO THIS NOW. You need to be seen by an Ophthalmologist, preferably one who specializes in retinas.

You are describing the symptoms of retinal detachment, and any number or fast moving eye conditions that involve the retina - all of which can lead to blindness - and quickly. You are also at the age when sudden onset of symptoms can also be a sign of MS, and any number of neurological issues, none of which are anything less than urgent.

If your age listed in your profile is correct, go find a parent and tell them you need to see someone RIGHT NOW - not next week, or whenever the GP or HMO can fit you in - you need to be properly diagnosed NOW. The eye doctor at Lens Crafters isn't going to cut it. You need to be seen by a specialist - preferably YESTERDAY.

Five minutes in front of this machine can save your eyesight:
lens crafters cut specialist preferably yesterday minutes machine save eyesight

A loving God would not leave anyone good - whether they "believe" or not, with a world filled with Westboro Baptists, Self Righteous Thumpers, Faith Healers, T.V. Evangelists, Republicans....

No God who loves his "children" would do that simply because they find that they can't have faith in any religion that preaches hate and intolerance- in other words *all of them*.
