Things are changing, and the industry of racing is going the way of Polo, which use to be enjoyed only by the super rich as an affordable extravagance activity.
The United States use to be king of all such extravagant activities. With money to spare, and ticket sales beyond to relm of a fortune, everyone having bountiful employment, things were very good for the majority of americans.
And then the powers that be decided it was time for that money to route to a different source, a source that could lead right to their bank accounts, because americans had been foolish with their money, and it was time they were relieved of that money.
So changes were put into production to get americans back on track, the track that leads to government control of their finances. Gas was slowly allowed to go up, up ,up, and the rains on business lending, and spending was kept very loose for a while, interest rates were lowered, banks were encouraged to become laxed in their decision making, and credit card rates were allowed to rise while brokage firms were telling lies to get people to invest, insider trading was at an all time high.

Then it happened, everything collapsed, and all at the same time, a well planned out conclusion to start something that would lead to the people begging ...

So things changed, and will continue to change, and things will continue to fade out that we really don't need to spend money on, because now we need to focus on just surviving.

Focus on building Hybrids? That would be a bad decision since people are seeing that there isn't an ROI with the purchase of a hybrid. Fuel savings won't pay for the cost difference, and the batteries are so expensive that the cars have no re-sale value.

Other articles I read on this decision stated that Toyota plans on reducing its effort on pick-up trucks and focus on hybrids. This comes from a country that has tried the economic direction that caused stagnation ... the direction we are about to embrace.

Sounds like the genius of the automotive gravitas that the Obama Administration plans to bring to GM!

Shortsighted I would say, but that seems to be the norm these days.

"They'll focus on building hybrids". They'd better focus on fixing the crap they have now. They have a problem with the throttle body gontrol from the sounds of it. They blame the floor mats but there's a glitch in the ECM or the throttle body itself.
Of course it could be a wiring problem if there is an induced false current over-riding the ECM command. Either way, people have died because of it.
If you have a Toyota with this problem, shift to neutral, put the brake on, pull to the side of the road, come to a stop, then shut the key off. The engine won't blow up since there's an over-rev limiter in it.
Most drivers have a tendency to panic when something goes awry. I think there needs to be more extensive driver training before licensing such as car control first and foremost. Starting with learning to drift would help.

I would love to see NASCAR return to racing cars that are actually based on production vehicles. That would translate into cars that the people actually want to buy.

Looks like the F1 Racing Circuit is going to disappear from the sporting world at this time. Have to wonder just how FEW manufacturers/sponsors are left ....

F1 may become a garage sport as opposed to a manufacturers sport if this trend keeps up.
