PETA has a new "Save the Whales" billboard that takes aim at fat women. The billboard depicts a fat lady in a bikini, with the tag line "Save the Whales. Lose the Blubber: Go Vegetarian." The PETA billboard is all over Florida, a city with lots of bikini-wearing women. PETA claims the billboard is just to remind those who are struggling to lose weight, that going vegetarian can be an effective way shed pounds. Many are offended, saying the billboard is "fat-shamming" and has no empathy for others.

PETA is way out of line here. PETA will not stop until Animals have more respect and better treatment than women. If they are so concerned with the ethical treatment of animals why are they degrading women and overtly objectifying them? Comparing a woman to a whale? I think that Chris Brown would make a great spokesman, after all he doesn't beat animals just women.

This is equal to all of the magazines aimed at young girls. Just because something doesn't directly say: Skinny is in, doesn't mean that it's less offensive. Honestly, this isn't inciting violence towards fat people, so it's okay in my book. Here, in America (and last I checked Florida is in the US) we can say what we want. Plus people complain too much. If you're fat and this hurts your feelings, then subconsciously you have low self-esteem, which is not the result of this one billboard.

The PETA "Save the Whales" billboard sends a much bigger message than it could ever imagine. I think that America is facing a serious obesity epidemic! Anything, that can controll, deter or eliminate America's weight problem is desperately needed! Oh, yeah, just because you don't eat meat doesn't mean you won't gain weight! Eat a lot of carbs and no meat can make you fat. I guess bullying is okay if you are bullying a fat woman. Insensitive and cruel. I thought they were against cruelty to animals. Also, being fat is more complex then they portray it to be. It's not what you eat so much as why you eat. I agree that you should be more health conscious but this is not the way. And PETA could care less about my health.

I don't think it's offensive, I DO think it's innacurate. I've been a vegetarian for 8 years, trust me, being a vegetarian does not guarantee that you are going to be skinny.

There is plenty of vegetarian junk food these days. If you choose to go vegetarian and you didn't eat healthy when you ate meat chances are you are not going to eat any healthier just b/c you are a vegetarian.

Yeah, but you can also eat meat healthily and excercise too. Plus, some people, even if they are vegetarians, have a low metabolism.

I'm glad I'm a vegetarian and wish more people were...but I'm realistic about it...it's not a miracle diet.

But not to me. I used to be fat and even then I wouldn't find this bill board offensive. Fun play on words though. But on the whole? Not true. Some people can't lose the weight even if they did go vegetarian. And I can see why this would bother them.
