HOW HAS THIS HORRID ECONOMY AFFECTED YOU AND YOUR FAMILY? ARE YOU MORE CONCERNED NOW THAT UNEMPLOYMENT HAS REACHED 10.2%, THAT YOU MAY LOSE YOUR JOB AS WELL? WILL THIS AFFECT YOUR HOLIDAY SPENDING?

This Horrid Economy Has Affected Me Or My Family Like This

Thank goodness I don't have to rely on Obama and his crew of misfits. I am more concerned about this health care bill that is going to be stuffed down our throats. If the health bill passes, I hope the entire government that voted for it is GONE FOR GOOD. lol

There is no reason to feel bad that you and your family have come through your own struggles, and are now able to get through this recession.... none of us can save the world. Sometimes just a simple act of kindness can make a difference is all it takes... depression and shame is a horrible side effect to those who through no fault of their own have lost everything... I have a neighbor who is widowed ... recently her grown daughter and grandson (13) moved in with her, adding to expenses... her grandson is a doll... always polite... I started noticing that when I would put my trash out side my door to take to the containers later someone was taking it there for me... come to find out it was her grandson...if he sees me bringing in groceries or packages, he always offers to help. I love to make spaghetti, chili, soups, stews and the like... there's always more than enough to freeze or share... its too much for me, so I share.. and I feel good when they say what a great cook I am... everybody wins

Of course I don't know if you have a job contract for 2 yrs or not, so will not speak to what I don't know... but what I do know, is anyone who thinks they are 100% safe in this economy are fooling themselves.

Well, when I was picking my field of study in college I picked a recession-resistant field and I made sure I performed well enough so that I wouldn't get caught in whatever layoffs the company had.

Is there a recession-resistant field these days? Many good people have lost their job for no reason whatsoever except that the company was forced to downsize to survive, went bankrupt, was bought by the government and jobs now sent to Mexico or Asia, etc...., but it is good to know that you are a hard worker, and of course that is a good thing.. but no one is above losing their job in this recession.. no one.

I didn't mean to imply I was "above" such a thing. But I disagree that everyone has an equal risk of losing their jobs. Everyone has a responsibility to evaluate what is important to them in a job, whether that be "something I'm passionate about," or "something that makes me a lot of money." For me, I needed to feed my family, so I looked for job stability, and based on that I picked public accounting and decided to like it.

We did have layoffs, but in reality, management just used it as an excuse to get rid of people who were poor performers.

I have slipped into survivor mode. I am making my lunch for work every day and making dinner every night. I have been making my Christmas gifts from supplies I already have at home. I have been in the knitting mode so I am whippping out socks and scarves. I have done 2 sweaters, also. There is no money involved as this comes from materials I have on hand. I just finished a table runner from found fabric and decorative materials. I have halted paying for entertainment. I have friends over for homemade minestroni, etc. soup. We play games and have great conversations. It is time for us to entertain ourselves and not spend money for some paid entertainment to do it for us!

This economy has not effected my family. All my immediate family members still have jobs and healthcare. Some are retired with good income. I don't spend a whole lot for Holiday. This is not saying that I don't feel for those who have lost jobs. I wish that everyone who wants job would get one. According to the economists, the economy has begun recovering and that unemployment will be the last to recover when the economy start rebounding. Things will get better. Right now people who have lost their job is going thru a storm. They will eventually come out of this storm. There is always sunshine after the rain. May God bless all with whatever they need while going thru the storm.
