Clayton Homes Develops Energy Efficient i-house. Would you buy one?

socallocal May 07, 2009 16:20:59

Clayton Homes is hoping that their new i-house will boost sales even further as they cater to the eco-friendly crowd. With a starting cost of $75,000 dollars, the i-house is made to reduce energy costs and can be fitted with solar panels, tank less water heaters, and other energy saving options. Would you buy an affordable and environmentally friendly i-house?

I'd buy anything that would save me lots of money in the long run. As long as it can withstand a northern Midwest winter, I am all for it!

A great idea that does NOT have to cost 75 grand. If they truly wanted everyone to be able to go 'green' and be affordable to all--they need to get the cost of this stuff way down. It can be done--they just don't want to sacrifice obscene profit for moderate profit.

potentially a good idea if it works. I have no problem with being eco friendly. Because I'm a fiscal conservative and a strict consitutionalist doesn't mean I can't have issues liberals also espouse. I believe in global warming though I feel it has been hijacked by the far left for political purposes in their social engineering programs. The more I think about it I would love an eco-friendly home that works.

Firstly I rent.I rent because no one ever really owns property in this world. If you have no income and you don't pay the Mafia property taxes, they will kick you to the curb and take your property.I'm not going to give them that pleasure. If I can't pay my rent I'm out on the street also, yet I didn't give the criminal government(the Mafia) anything to take.Fuck them!God will take care of them bastards and God will take care of me just as he/she/it has always done.I have been blessed with many blessings from God for which I am very thankful.

My renting has something to do with the pictures how? The question was about e-houses. BTW those people under the tarp, that was me at one point in my life. I,with Gods help, pulled myself out of that hell. I help people like this all the time, basically because I was one of them not so long ago and can relate to their problems. But your reply was judgmental and you don't know shit about me. So keep your pictures,I've already seen them first hand in person.

When I pray to God to better my life situation and it happens I tend to feel that I was helped. My work was important in attaining the goal, but my faith gave me the extra push I needed when times were their toughest. Right or wrong, everyone has the right to feel something.

It would be interesting to further research, but an "economy house" could end up just like an economy car - Too small and not suited to my family's needs.

Geez. It's difficult to sum it up. I worked at corporate headquarters for a while. It was the atmosphere, as much as anything. But also their miserly ways. The first HQ was built entirely out of used trailer parts. It was dark and gloomy, and the floors bounced when you walked. They didn't seem to give a crap about their employees. When they moved to the new, pristine building, it had the feel of a prison camp.

I never met one person in my tenure there that praised Clayton Homes. And I have nothing good to say about them.

a decent place in theory but what determines what kind of house I buy is what does it look like, what is the square footage, how many bedrooms and does it suit my life style?

Yes, an i-house sounds like a good deal!

    it works for me.

i think companies need to really try to make eco-houses in styles more suitable for a conservative homebuyer. a lot of people are turned off by the looks of modern "green" housing but if you can make it indistinguishable from "the jones'" then there'll be greater acceptance of green housing.

i can't see why they don't make more mainstream design to attract more mainstream customers. doesn't make good business sense.

greater acceptance green housing mainstream design attract mainstream customers business

...a good deal, at least on the surface. But I would want to know more about the maintenance costs of all these energy saving devices, as well as how much energy they potentially use vs. how much they save.

Yeah. It's an investment like solar panels. You have to think about it long-term.
