Boycott Ed Hardy!

I have a long time friend that got a design internship with Ed Hardy Clothing Co. with promises that if he was a great artist, he was promised a full time position in the company. The internship was unpaid and worked designing Ed Hardy T-shirts, baby clothes, keychains, etc. My friend worked really hard for 3 months, unpaid, and all he got in return was Ed Hardy shot glasses and hats. Although he interned with Ed Hardy for free working 20 hours a week, he can testify that he was treated like trash and was often told his designs sucked and that his pieces of art will never make it to the stores! --- Until the day came that he found out one of his T-Shirt designs were being sold for $179.99 a piece at the Northridge mall. He immediately contacted Ed Hardy claiming that he deserves some kind of pay or at least, what he was promised, a full time position. Which one did he get? Any! My friend was immediately fired as an intern and was scammed. It is pretty shitty that a company like Ed Hardy hires unpaid interns, sells their designs for more than 100 bucks, and gives their interns nothing whatsoever in return.

hardy hires unpaid interns sells designs 100 bucks interns return
People if you worked for Ed Hardy or any other company under the pretense of internship that was actually an unpaid job please pursue you legal rights and sue them. Internships have specific requirements please look them up. Just calling something an internship does not allow any company to have people work for them for free. Know your rights and sue the bastards. Boycott Ed Hardy!
You!

Sorry never heard of him so I more then likely would never buy anything from him anyway. If your friend can document his design I would suggest they see an attorney.

There are already clothing unions but since your friend was an "intern" they cannot fall into the legal perimeters to join that union it's viewed as a temporary position. Should he continue designing clothes; I would recommend that he document his work or design. You can take a digital photo and date stamp it , then print it out and have a witness sign an legal document that verifies they created the garment. Place the photo and signatures in an envelope and have a friend mail it back to you. When you receive it DO NOT OPEN IT. The postal stamp proves when it was mailed and by not opening it proves it hasn't been tamper with. Put it in a safe place like a bank deposit box or a safe.

Well, until reading this post I didn't know who or what Ed Hardy was, and my wife and I never buy designer clothes anyway, so we can't boycott them because we never bought or would buy from them anyway! But we will boycott in spirit!

And excuse me for saying this, but your friend should have used a little more common sense in the first place. Never go on an unwitnessed oral promise. S/he should have gotten them to put the offer in writing. An oral contract is as much valid as a written one, *IF* it can be proved. But that is not easy to do, and that is why contracts need to be in writing.

    Good luck!

This is why we need unions. I am so tired of seeing people exploited.

It would be a good idea to link to the requirements of internships so those reading this post could look them up.

I think the designs are pretty- but I am too old to be wearing things that are produce by Ed Hardy- so you won't have to worry about us, over here in my state. We like sitting outside and looking at nature not at some dragons and skulls
