That's a tuff one LOL, but I suppose It would be the same as not being there at all if the other never did anything, and I don't want to pay them for nothing. I'd rather pay the the one that actually worked when they showed up...perhaps we could work on attendance a little LOL.

Poor choices, but being productive is the better choice. The nature of the job is critical. When absenteeism affects the work or productivity of other employees, that employee has to go.

Anyone can be replaced...and no one is allowed to do what everyone else does not do..so i don't care how great an employee is, they will abide by the rules and regulations, or else!!! If i as the boss and owner goes to work every day, so better my employees.

If I can hire 'em, that means I can FIRE 'em too!
I'd get rid of BOTH of them sonofabitches!

Ooops, I've got to choose one or the other? That's easy. I'd see to it that their 'absenteeism' becomes permanent.

In my industry, sometimes an extra body doing something minimal is much more helpful than no one at all. Plus if one was excessively absent, you wouldn't be employed long enough for me to discover you were productive when you decided to show up.

I would take a somewhat less than prudent individual that was at least talented, over a complete dip shit that always showed up.

Still, much of my decision would be based on the kind of business I was running. If it was a Taco Bell, I am not necessarily interested in if the guy aced the SAT.

If I was an aerospace defense contractor, then I would probably be much more inclined to go with the individual with a brain who is sometimes absent.

Even if they miss a lot of days, if they are incredibly productive during the days that they are present, then I'll at least feel okay about paying them. Besides, if they are on an hourly wage, they wouldn't be getting paid on the days that they didn't work, so it would be a win win situation in that respect.

this person could be written up and released easily without having to pay unemployment. the other person would be harder to write up and prove they were not performing their job duties. Either way you have to make sure you follow the rules so you don't have to keep paying them after you fire them.

I have to add that in my thought above the person being absent did not have a good reason to be absent, however if you are talking about somebody with a good reason I wouldn't fire them at all.
