The US Mint unveils their new 2009 Lincoln bicentennial pennies. There are 4 new designs for the reverse side of the new penny. Each design is about a specific part of Abraham Lincoln's life. The first is childhood in Kentucky, then his formative years in Indiana, his professional life in Illinois, and lastly his Presidency in Washington D.C.
The pennies celebrate the bicentennial celebration of Lincoln's birthday, and the 100th anniversary of the production of the cent penny. (more)

I don't know why we are still minting pennies!!!We should eliminate them, make the nickel the smallest coin, and make a one dollar coin a more standard coin in circulation and that alone would stimulate spending.

I'm glad the penny is still around. There is a local department store that has horses for the kiddies (electric ones) and it costs a penny to ride. Every time I am in that store, I pile a few pennies on the horses so the kids can get a free ride. Hey, where else can you get a big smile for a penny? Sad thing is I have seen adults steal the pennies after I leave them for the kids. Some people would ruin anything..
