Should this be excused? Follow the link below to see the actual poll. http://www.sodahead.com/question/127409/in-california-student... As a Mexican-American I was horrified by the sight of my flag (Old Glory) flying upside down under the Mexican flag! The sight was revolting to me and any statement that those young people were trying to make was lost to me as I was consumed by disgust. I made my feelings known on the poll and as expected received dissent and support but one responder still sticks in my mind and it was because of the mixed messages that that person sent. That responder demonstrated support for the protesters and their cause which was to block House bill 4437 which would have made it a felony to enter the country illegally. Honestly, I don’t see a problem with that bill and I think it would act as a hell of a deterrent to people considering entering America illegally but that’s not my point. My issue with the respondent happened when after she avowed what can be interpreted as compassion for the undocumented and then in the next sentence bragged about how she had hired illegals to build her adobe home. She hired these people because they were cheap labor which I see as exploitation and her compassion the illegals as hypocritical. I made the interpretation of my observation known and told her she was a hypocrite for claiming one thing but doing another. The wrath of hell descended upon me! This is just a sample: “…the guy must be having problems with his jalapenos. Got one stuck up the wrong orifice if you know what I mean…” “He really does need to take the jalapeno out of his ass doesn't he?” “You better eat some menudo for your hang over hermano” “OMG I gave Wesloco a rave by mistake. I took it back. I rather give him some really hot jalapenos.” “LOL! I was serious about the jalapeno remark. Thought it was pretty funny too.” This is only a sampling and there’s much more but let me make one thing clear, these comments are not coming from the people who like me were upset by the disrespect shown to the American flag but rather by those people who supported it! These comments came from the people who do not want to make illegal immigration a felony and who admit to hiring illegal aliens. These people called those who are against the hiring of illegals racist but not a one of those so called “racist” ever told me to eat menudo. It was the ones who purport to be the fighters for the minorities who told me to get the jalapeno out of my ass. I asked the question if no one thought the comments being directed at me (a Mexican-American) to be racist or insensitive and this is the response I got: “Wesloco..I'm not trying to butt in here..but why is a reference to jalapeños mocking Mexican-Americans? “ And then it hit me! Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s words, “Hillary ain’t never been called a nigga!” All of these people who were responding had read in books about what the Mexicans had suffered in America and some of them proudly professed how they were hippie types who have probably been in marches and sit-ins protesting this or that but as whites they had never been called a “beaner, TJ, Frito Bandito, chili choker or wetback.” Yes like the Clintons they could, “feel my pain” but not really. It has become very apparent to me that some people will say anything to try to make themselves look benevolent to the world but in reality they are wolves in sheep’s clothing. People like the ones who used all these racist analogies as punch lines are neither benevolent or a friend of the oppressed but rather members of the power structure afflicted by the guilt of who they are and there powerlessness to really put all their privilege aside and fathom what it’s like to be called a “nigga” or a “wetback.” Thank God for people like Reverend Wright who will stick their neck out and say what has to be said to unearth dangerous people who will smile in your face and then stick that dagger of racism right in your back! 2008-08-12T04:08:39Z Wesloco . http://www.sodahead.com/blog/2558
 Wesloco

+2 raves
. 2008-02-15T06:43:15Z Wesloco . http://www.sodahead.com/blog/2180
 Wesloco

0 raves
. 2008-02-04T16:13:37Z Wesloco . http://www.sodahead.com/blog/1961
 Wesloco

0 raves
. 2008-01-28T21:09:26Z Wesloco . http://www.sodahead.com/blog/1831
 Wesloco

0 raves
. 2008-01-21T16:12:21Z Wesloco . http://www.sodahead.com/blog/1816
 Wesloco

+1 raves
. 2008-01-19T22:37:51Z Wesloco
