Michael Savage: Autism is "A Fraud, a Racket"
Dear Supporter,
On July 16, the No. 3 syndicated radio talk show host in the country,
Michael Savage, made the following statement on autism:
"Now, you want me to tell you my opinion on autism? ... A fraud, a racket."
Savage went on to say:
Now, the illness du jour is autism. You know what autism is? I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is.
What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them, "Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot."
Autism -- everybody has an illness. If I behaved like a fool, my father called me a fool. And he said to me, "Don't behave like a fool." The worst thing he said -- "Don't behave like a fool. Don't be anybody's dummy. Don't sound like an idiot. Don't act like a girl. Don't cry." That's what I was raised with. That's what you should raise your children with. Stop with the sensitivity training. You're turning your son into a girl, and you're turning your nation into a nation of losers and beaten men. That's why we have the politicians we have.
During the same broadcast, Savage also attacked those in "the minority community" who suffer from asthma. He stated: "[W]hy was there an asthma epidemic amongst minority children? Because I'll tell you why: The children got extra welfare if they were disabled, and they got extra help in school. It was a money racket. Everyone went in and was told [fake cough], 'When the nurse looks at you, you go [fake cough], "I don't know, the dust got me." ' See, everyone had asthma from the minority community."
Michael Savage's mean-spirited comments are disgusting and are an affront to basic decency.

My grandson is autistic. I wouldn't expect much more from Micheal Savage. And speaking of fraud his real name is Micheal Weiner (yes pronounced Wee-Ner) but think about it, how would that sound on the Radio to 8 million people "the Weiner Nation?"
Obviously deception is one of his tradmarks. -

It's simple: they seek out other idiots with the same agenda, and beg for jobs.
As for their sponsors? Ignorance and apathy. If people don't know or don't care that the companies that they're buying from are supporting agendiots, said companies will always have enough money to go around as long as they're turning out products. -
OH awful,I worked with some autistic kids,really tough disease and kids are wonderful,what Savage said is far worse than what Imus said,Imus is working to find the cause as he thinks it's from the baby shots that some kids have bad reactions to

To Whom It May Concern: As the parent of a four-year-old child with asthma, I am deeply disturbed and offended by Michael Savage's latest vulgar tirade [July 16th] and even more disturbed to learn that he is carried anywhere in the local "news" radio market.

My husband and I had to rush our daughter to Gibson Lovelace's ER twice before she was a year old because she was turning blue from breathing difficulties that turned out to be childhood asthma we are hopeful (based upon numerous consultations with a pediatric asthma specialist) she'll outgrow. It was terrifying!
Savage should be ashamed of himself, except that if anyone is motivated by the almighty dollar here, it's him...and the stations who carry him.
As an attorney, I believe strongly in the First Amendment. But Savage's "right" to free speech does not entitle him to advertisers, nor does it entitle 770 KOB to think it will get anything other than a rough ride for sponsoring this fatuous and vicious lout. Having learned that Michael Savage is carried in the local radio market, I intend to do all that I can to stir up local sentiment to pressure advertisers to pull their advertising from 770 KOB until 770 KOB pulls the plug on this hate mongering excuse for a human being.
