World war is the only way, or world hunger. And I would rather have the people of other nations to die than our won people. Nature has it, it will be one or the other. So we chose, a shot to the head, or lack of food. Take what we need from others and live, or be a kind and caring people and die. I'm a God fearing man, and it was foretold, the world would come to this point. -
raves +1 Aug 08, 2008 09:47PM GMTI think the resource wars have already begun. Do you agree? Do you think there is a third option - somehow stabilize world population and shrink the energy economy in such a way that most of us alive can still enjoy a sustainable future?

raves +1 posted Aug 06, 2008 02:07PM GMTOn my computer I can't see anything but a big white space. But from the comments here this sounds interesting. Is it about Al Bartlett? Could you post a link? Thanks.

raves +1 Aug 07, 2008 01:53PM GMTThanks, yes it is Al Bartlett! Thank you for posting this. My computer at work blocks out youtube but I have already watched this series a few years ago. I was actually thinking of posting this myself but you beat me to it! I wish everyone understood this stuff. People will accuse him of being a modern day Malthus, but he is dead on. I think we are already seeing the effects of a growing population and exponential economic growth on the worlds finite energy supply. The same mathematics can be used to show how our economic system, based on infinite growth in a finite world, is destined to collapse or be radically reinvented.

raves +1 Aug 07, 2008 05:28PM GMTI agree, but I know I personally need to learn the math better.
-
raves Aug 10, 2008 03:12PM GMTWarren It has been foretold. I know it will come to pass. And I do think it stated years ago.

raves +2 posted Aug 05, 2008 09:07PM GMTYeah Iv seen this guy before and he is of the notion that mankind is screwed... he is far to pessimistic.. not really about oil and enegy but in his belief that we are to overpopulated. There are alot of people in the world, but if you take a trip just acrossed THIS country... you'll see miles and miles and miles and miles of unihabited land. America, canada and africa are nothing like china and india... there is alot lof space left for human beings particularly if they choose to use green technologies and reduce reuse and recycle... that man just wants to legalize murder/violence and senseless genoicide in some form. He disgusts me..
-
raves +2 Aug 05, 2008 09:12PM GMTI don't think that was his point at all. I think all he is showing is how fast we are using up our sources.
-
raves +2 Aug 05, 2008 09:23PM GMThummm,, but in the beginning he asks if we shouldnt legalize murder or cause a world wide pandemic to reduce our numbers in order to not use them up so fast (or the version I watched did about a month ago.. mabey I should see if the same is said in this one) and when I saw that I just couldnt get past it I think...... this is the same 'conspiracy' ideal some have believed the gov to have on its own.. let me see if he says that in this one..

raves +3 Aug 05, 2008 09:36PM GMTJust because he asked doesn't necessarily mean he believes we should do it. I ask undesirable questions all the time that may produce undesirable answers. It doesn't mean I believe we should act on it, but I do feel it is important to discuss so we can come up with a solution to the problem.
He is using math to describe what is going on in the world. None of the math produces a solution the problem but the math can help us think of solutions. I posted these videos because I think it is a pretty good explanation of what is going on with the oil. I think the rising prices are a way to help slow down the consumption so we won't run out so fast. -
raves +2 Aug 05, 2008 09:41PM GMTwell thats true,, and you'd think the 'global warming' politicians would be thrilled.. I know the stock holders are lol!
-
raves +2 Aug 05, 2008 09:53PM GMTLOL you would think haha
-
raves +1 Aug 07, 2008 02:21PM GMTI agree 100%; well said, Magzilla. The rising prices I believe are associated with a peak in world oil capacity that we are quickly nearing (peak oil). Oil fields are being pumped out faster than new ones can be brought on line and so there is no reserve capacity. If you get a chance, check out these two websites:

raves +1 Aug 08, 2008 03:34AM GMTI work offshore in the oil and gas production. When we bring on a new well, like us with our first breath, it starts to decline. The oil fields like myself are a dieing breed. What he has said is something I have known for a long time. I'm 55 years old and I may live long enough to see the lights go out all around the word forever.. The thing I want to know is if we are going to let the rich live as we the working class die in the 1000's. Or find a way that we all share the load.
-
raves +2 Aug 07, 2008 02:55AM GMTIf he were serious he would have said, "What this world needs is a good old disease, that will wipe out 75% of humanity!" That's my belief anyway. Maybe I'm kidding, maybe I'm not. Just because I say it doesn't mean I want it, Or do I?....lol

raves Aug 07, 2008 03:06AM GMTLOL

raves +2 Aug 05, 2008 09:33PM GMTokay yes it definatly the same lecture... I get his point.. and I get how those resources are being under estimated and how the gov makes it sound like forever growth is a good thing when in fact its not....... but then what are we to do, tell people who want children that they cant like china does? Their death rate already exceeds their birth rate.. I dont know its a depressing talk and the primary thing that I picked up on was his comments about doing violence on others in order to control the population which really set me on a bad note....
I dont totally disagree with the premisis of his points.. the math is good. But he offers no real solutions .. just depressing statistics. Not good for the mind lol.
