raves +1 posted Aug 07, 2008 03:24AM GMTI've always loved the music and the progressive politics of the Vietnam era; those were my formative years thanks to an older brother and sister, and unusually rabble-rousing parents. It sickens the hell out of me that we have these youngsters coming home now from a war that need not have been, that should not have been -- with grievous injuries, or in coffins.... One of my very favorite soundtracks has always been the rock musical "Hair" -- I still love it, but these days, it hits a little too close to home... As when I saw a young soldier in the courthouse last week who did not even look old enough to shave, but he's old enough to be shot at and to worry about IED's.

Thank you, Nina, thank you -
raves +6 posted Aug 05, 2008 10:48PM GMTWhat's particularly tragic about this -- it's a song I remember from the 60s -- yet another parallel to Vietnam. "When will we ever learn?"
-
raves +3 Aug 05, 2008 11:10PM GMTSo true! When will we ever learn?

raves +4 posted Aug 05, 2008 10:23PM GMTThank you Nina. This is very powerful. This should be McCain's theme song. I fear that a McCain presidency would be a few more years of this...maybe a hundred....as John McWar says.

raves +4 posted Aug 05, 2008 10:23PM GMTAll of this for what? I hate to say that because our men and women are over their fighting, but what the hell are they fighting for? This war has killed so many of our hard working young men and woman, but how many children have died? How many old people? How many innocents were lost? If it was just to take out Saddam, their people could have done that if they so chose. But it wasn't. It was for fuckin oil!!!! George Bush and Dick Cheney should be brought up on war charges!!!!! I hope that when Barack Obama is elected he does what Iraq wishes. Help put the country back together and get out.

raves +4 Aug 05, 2008 09:54PM GMTThank you and it is appreciated.
I lost an Uncle in Afghanistan in 2004 and a Nephew in Iraq in 2006 and I currently have 4 nephews, 1 cousin serving in Iraq. Those lucky enough to have come home on leave have brought the horrors with them and it has destroyed one marriage in my family due to PTSD.
Hugs! -
