    +4 raves There's an awesome book out there called The 36 hour day by Nancy L Mace. I read it recently when... There's an awesome book out there called The 36 hour day by Nancy L Mace. I read it recently when I went North to stay with my mom who has severe dementia..and the book helped me TONS!!



    It helps you to understand what emotions THEY are feeling as well as good suggestions for us on how to deal.



    One of the things we did was get mom a coloring book and crayons...she loved it..spent hours coloring.



    The most difficult part is realizing you are now playing "Parent" to your parent...My mom needed routine, structure and rules...A set bedtime, etc..to keep the same routine each day helped her a lot.



    Another thing that you MUST do is keep your sense of humor...you NEED it..it's a MUST.



    My sister and I would say, Dad's the rebellious teen with the foul mouth (cuz he woke from surgery with the worse language we ever heard..but he passed 3 months later) and mom was the toddler.



    You will be repeating yourself many times throughout the day...usually within seconds. A good support system will defiinitely help and I'd suggest reading that book.
